So ive got an M1009, thats getting the 6in lift and 1 tons. the current driveshaft wont work due to the extent of the lift, so i need a longer one. How bout the driveshaft from an M1008 or other military pickup with 1tons?

are they too long? Obviously id need to get a new front shaft, but even having a RWD blazer thats driveable would be preferable to a lifted lawn ornament. figure this would be a direct bolt in (assuming the right length) cuz the u-joints are already 1 ton sized, and the yoke already fits the NP208 that both trucks came with from the factory.

thoughts?

no idea... hence the reason im asking. just a random thought cuz im cheap.

maybe the driveshaft out of some year suburban? 2500 level or somethin?

hell no not the same. wheel base get longer from blazer/shortbed/longbed/suburban/crewcab and other combos in there.

then diffrent tranny lengths from th350/th400/700r4/sm465 and add in tcase 203/205/208/241 slip yoke or fixed yoke.

but if you can find a m1008 shaft for the rear thats NOT bent get it.

its always cheeper to cut 1 down that it is to lengthen 1 . :waytogo:

all i posted applys for the front also. but if you want the longest possible stock front try a 700r4 with 208/241 or sm465 late with 208/241 thay seem to be the longest.

now if your front shaft is a little short with corp 10 bolt or dana 44 hold off if your going to install a dana 60. the 60 is bigger and the pinion sits back more thus requiring a shorter shaft. and if you didnt correct it from the smaller axles then it will prob work just fine in the 60. :D

interesting. id have to get the hybrid u-joint thought right? the 10 bolt u joint is smaller than the D60, so even if length was ok, the u joint wouldnt fit.

well if you havent l;ooked outside yet then its snowin if thats good news for ya. :haha:

oh ya and jan/12th is the est. delivery date of a special brown box for a special someone.

This may not apply to you but most truck driveshafts I have seen are huge, like 3" diameter. Most blazer are substantially smaller. They don't need the huge diameter because they are not very long. It makes your driveshaft more vulnerable to hits.

You guys really need to check your local driveline shops. Here locally its less than a hundred to have a shaft lengthened, balanced and all joints replaced. Unless its a CV if so add 150 to have a new cv put on.

Don't cheap out on the shafts ( of course you don't need HAD drivelines either) it will drive you nuts if you have a slightly out of balance shaft and you keep on chasing it. Shoot one time replacing the u joints in hopes it will cure a vibe will make your cheap shaft not so much

blazinuk - no no, i get ya, but im going to be doing the truck in stages. Right now ive got the lift springs and axles. once i sort out this disk brake situation on the D70HD, and move the spring perches, ill be ready to install them. the M1008 shaft can be made to fit the truck with the 6in lift on the cheap, my front driveshaft may work as is. this would be great while i save up, and put together the NV4500/203/205 setup i want to eventually put in. The truck will still be driveable with the th400/208 and have 4x4 ability. obviously once ive sunk the time and money into the replacement drivetrain, ill obviously get some custom CV driveshafts made.

I have heard of swapping in a SWB truck shaft to a K5, but I can't remember if that was with SYE or just a lot of lift. For the front, it doesn't matter if it's truck, Blazer, Sub, just what tranny/Tcase combo it has.

Don't forget about the added size of the 14BFF over the 10B. Just the ring gear diameter moves your rear yoke 1" forward, plus the pinion is longer. If you measure the current driveshaft length and angle, you can calculate the new length with a 6" lift.

yeah, that was my thought process. Im putting a D70HD in, not a 14bff. mostly because im mildly retarded... but thats another issue.

BUT both my truck and an M1008 have the 6.2/th400/np208 setup, so spline counts should mate up just fine. but where my blazer has 1/2 ton joints, where the M1008 shaft should have the 1 ton u-joint already in it.

yeah, guess ill bust out the geometry skills and measure whats in the thing right now. been too lazy... and cold to do it.

ok, found a ck5'er with an m1008 shaft that im waiting on a price+shipping quote on.

should i ask about the front shaft? get it and hold onto it later to have made into a CV rear shaft? apparently all the front shafts already have the 1 ton 1310 joints, id just need to have it made longer right?
