cheap driveshaft alternative

ok, found a ck5'er with an m1008 shaft that im waiting on a price+shipping quote on.

should i ask about the front shaft? get it and hold onto it later to have made into a CV rear shaft? apparently all the front shafts already have the 1 ton 1310 joints, id just need to have it made longer right?

There are spicer and saginaw front cvs, I don't remember which is which but one bolts to a flange and the other is not, you need the non flange one.

what is someone smokin

1310 is stock 1/2 ton stuff. a true 1 ton c/v head would be 1350 .

even the non flange style old system there is still a little partal yoke on there with the threads for the 4 little bolts that hold it to the yoke on the tcase end.

yah its not a direct bolt on to the rear you need to change yolks. Last time I bought a yoke though it was like 60 bucks vs quite a bit more to do a new cv shaft.

A side note here I ran a blazer for years with nearly 10" of lift and a 203 with no cv and no vibes whatsoever. My angles were just dead on. Since the rear is centered mostly it doesn't actually move much when articulating.

nope all fronts use 1310 beleve it or not. dana 60 1ton go figure on 1310 :doah:

ok.... so now im confused. so all front factory driveshafts use 1310 joints, which are half ton, even on one ton axles. so the good news is my current front driveshaft works with the D60 i wanna put in.

BUT, if im doing a rear application, the 1 ton joint is a 1350, and thus does not match the joint in a front driveshaft, so the factory front driveshaft is not a good application for making a rear cv shaft. if im reading all that correctly.....

geezus, ive been on here how long, and sometimes my noobness amazes even myself. :doah:

OH and yeah, if i were putting one of these CV shafts on the rear I would likely just go with a SYE, and keep the bolt on flange.

na you just got to come to terms with the fact your a flipin idiot :haha:

but you are smart and ask questions so thats your saving grace. :thumb:
