Im starting to fix up and inprove my 1990 Blazer it has TBI 350 700R4 241TC and 10 bolts front and rear with 3.08 gears with 285 75 R16 Firestone MT tires. Im a search & rescue officer so my blazer needs to handle alot of gear and go just about anywhere rain snow or sunshine. For the realy rough stuff I have an ATV to handle as theres not really anywhere to for hardcore off roading. Where i live its 45min on the freeway to get to a walmart i have drove over 100 miles in the back country and never passed another person. Im also on a limited budget to fix up my blazer so i need to spend my money as wisely as i can.

What ive already done is replaced the auto hubs ( the drivers side wouldnt unlock) new tire rod and drag link and steering stablizer and IACV cap roter plugs wires and air filter and fuel filter. I replacing the 10 bolt rear with a 12 bolt ive just finished rebuilding ( all new berrings and seals) I got a good deal on a 12 bolt rear and 10 bolt front with 3.37 grars both just need some tlc.

What i would like to do as far as the axles go is youkon shafts in the rear and a powertrax no slip and a true track up front i hate wheel spin.

I get a big puff of blue smoke on start up and im leaking a little antifreeze
from the intake gasket above the 1# cylinder ( theres no antifreeze in the oil) the motor has over 127,000 miles on it option A is rebuild the heads and option B is to rebuild anoth 350 i have 2 blocks to rebuild as i get time and money and my father in law will help port and polish the new heads. I would like to put in a roller cam that will work with the computer to have more low end. Also spacers on the TBI unit is in the plan and salad bowl and new injectors from CFM TEC hearders and a high flow cat.

For the trans i was looking at a rebuilt heavy duty one from Monster transmission and a 1660 stall speed coverter to help on the down side of the hills. A nice big tranny cooler is a must and i was looking on here about doing a remote filter for the tranny in line to the cooler.

I was going to order new leaf springs from Alcan springs to help with the weight of all my gear and tools. I might add 2 in lift when I oder the springs. A brace for the steering gear will come for ORD.

Is there anything im missing? or some one have a better idea?
I know a 14 bolt is stronger but 33in tires is as big as there getting and i like the ground clearance i have as well as the added cost of new wheels and such.

Any thoughts and coments are very apprecaited Thanks Jim

Well it looks as if your a sheriff of that county. Maybe the state could fund your department a unit overhaul.
Or is that a former sheriff's car?

It my blazer but the search and rescue work under the sheriffs department so we use there markings on our trucks. Because we are volunteers we use our funding for special equipment. We do get some reimbursement for the gas we use.

About 2 hours south depending on how fast you drive little town of beaver

What a difference 3.73 gears make. The 700R4 doesn't hunt gears any more and I can run overdrive on the highway. The blazer seams like it has some power now.
