I have an ingersoll and rand 1/2 torque gun. Its aboit a year old but ive only ised it a few times. I went to take lug nuts off the other day and it seemed like it was struggling. Is there a way to check to see what kijda numbers its operating at? Should have about 600ft/lbs

Torque something witha large torque wrench at say 600ft lbs see if it will tighten them up more or back that bolt off or not If it backes it off then yes its got600+ft lbs of torque in reverse.

did you mean impact gun ?

what kind of air compresser ?

what cfm at 90psi ?

these 2 make huge diffrence in power.

also did the knob get turned down on the directional button ? seen this happen a lot.

I used to work in a shop that had community impact guns. No one ever oiled them and as a result, the wet air from the compressor ended up rusting them. I don't remember what they were rated at, but they'd barely break lug nuts loose.

over oil is bad also.

i use to work with a kid oiled his gun every day . week or so in to it he said it was slow and didnt have much balls.

i flushed it all out with brake cleaner threw air port inlet 3-4 times till slowed up then re oiled it 1 good shot. then it worked like a new gun after that. i know it says oil every day but dont OIL it just oil it a little

i have been using pb blaster air tool conditioner for years . and a good clean air system is best also. moisture = death to air tools.

PB will rust eventually, and can be hard on seals. If you're not using your air tools every day I would steer clear of the PB. I like Marvel Mystery Oil for mine. I give it a little shot before use, that way it flushes out while using it, but leaves a nice coating on stuff. I recently had a seal go out on my 1/2" impact that I replaced myself. When I had it apart everything but that seal looked brand new. I was pretty impressed for a 7 year old gun that got used every day for almost 5 years.

not rust pent i use this

air tool conditioner http://www.blastercorporation.com/Air_Tool_Conditioner.html

thay make a lot of products.,

i to have also had my tools apart and my 1 friend use to be a ir tool employe and he was amazed at 5+ years on a thunder gun and how clean it was. i told him 2x a year i flush them with brake cleaner and reoil. also oil 1 a wek or so with this stuff. air cylinder was smooth and no groves in it to even catch a finger nail.

Ahh, very nice. I know they make a bunch of different stuff, just always forget it's all called "blaster"... My bad

Sure did. Not sure the cfm at 90psi but it os the craftsman 33 gallon model. I do usually oil everytime i use it. To clean it do i just spray brake cleaner in the gun then run some air through it?

yep and do this 2-3 times and oil it good 1 time and have fun.

smallish comp for big air tools but does work. people dont relize how much air a good tool will drink up quickly.

Yea i didnt realize it would eat up so much. It was always horrible with the rotary tools bit i didnt think the impact gun would be as bad. Ive seen air tanks u can by at harbor freight pretty cheap. Is this something that can be added inline to provide the extra umph i need or is it based more on the power of the compressor?

Well you have 2 things, storage, and flow.
If you have a smaller flow, you could help a bit by having a bigger storage to get the longer duty cycle to get your job done, but it will require longer to refill all that volume too, it just gives a longer working window.
Nothing works like a big compressor though.
since I got my 1" impact, I realized how important it was to have a big 2 stage 220V compressor, even though my tank is small at 60 gal, it still works fine and I never run out of air working on my big rig.
:thumb:

I def hear ya on the big compressor. I just dont know if i can justify a big purchase like that for something i dont get to use very often

I agree, I did fine with my cambel hausfeld 27 upright 110V until I got to working on my big rig, and I realized the 3/8" hose won't do the job.
I have 1/2" hoses now running to a 1" impact running 2600 ft lbs of torque.:eek1:

That's insane! I've always kind of wanted to use a 1" just to try it once. I could break all sorts of chit:D

Yep there are some bolts I can't break lose with that thing but have top use a 2" pipe 8 foot long cheater bar to do it
