crossy
1/2 ton status
I have an 8.1L GM Big block Chevy engine. Removed from a lightly wrecked 2003, don't let the grungy look in the pic throw you. This engine has only 75,000 miles. Whatever you see in the pics is what you get, nothing else. yes, most of the coils are gone. There is currently a hole in the oil pan, but it is from an incident while moving it around, not from any internal damage. These are 496 CID engine with high velocity, vortec heads and a hydraulic roller cam. The 496 is BASICALLY a stroked 454 so I can only imagine the throttle response from one of these in a 3800 lb. car versus the 7000 lb++ trucks that they put them in.
I bought this to install in my old ElCamino project, but I want the engine to look stock to the car and there are too many changes I would have to do to this. I also have no indoor storage left so you get the picture. I’m hoping someone is looking at this to replace a tired or blown up long block in their Mercruiser (Mercury Marine) powered sport boat or Gm 2500HD /3500 HD truck / van/ suburban that these powerful engines came in, that way it can be left all buttoned up. I also understand that there are people like me, who dream of dropping this into a vintage truck, car or musclecar and I already found someone makes an intake to fit this to accept a Holley carb and it accepts a standard distributor. You would have to run an electric fuel pump in an older application though (no big deal). The bolting on the back of the block is typical to all early style Chevy engines(NON- LS). I also found out that Street & Marine or Howell both make wiring harnesses for it, for streetrods or any other custom install, if you want to keep it injected. I just want enough money for it to properly rebuild my 1969 396 to put back into the car. I want $1400 firm for it.
**NOTEs* unique heads, but they use stand BBC headers.
The hole in the pan can be fixed, but I have no way to repair aluminum here.
GM used this same engine L18 RPO option motor from 2001-2007 in trucks and large SUV’s , including some medium duty applications. I know there were some motorhomes( RV)& buses that used them also. From the heads down it's basically a 496 magnum marine engine, but these truck engines used a bit milder cam.(your marine cam can be installed)
I do have the main front bracket, also have the water pump and head crossover piping(not pictured.) .
This has been inside since removal and all the important holes were sealed up so no dirt or critters could get in.
I'll assist with any freight arrangements that YOU make. I can palletize it.
can deliver up to 200 miles from here for small fee.NO C.O.D. pay up front. I'm an ebayer with 1200 positive feedbacks and most are from selling used parts.
