chevy 96 z-71auto tranny problems..no tach, speedometer and...stuck in 4th gear

on my 96 z71 4wd the tranny got stuck in 4th gear and wouldnt shift and the speedometer, tach, shift indicator and odometer stopped working.. it drove just fine the nite before.. woke up this mourning and it wasnt shifting and nun of the gauges above worked...then after driving for a while it just kicked real hard then started shifting again all the gauges that werent working before started working again...and shifts fine now...any ideas on what this could of been?

I'm no expert, but I would say you have an electrical problem. Start looking around for loose plugs or burnt/frayed wires.

ya thas the first thing i did when it stopped working and i couldnt find anything...

do you have a check engine light on? my ford was doing that-no speedo didnt want to shift etc-was bad speed sensor.

ya the check engine lite is on... i took to autozone and had codes ran...said 1 and 2 shift solenoid wasnt working. 2 and 3 shift solenoid wasnt working, torque converter solenoid wasnt working and had a bad o2 sensor...i replaced o2 sensor and the check engine lite is still on...and when i put it in reverse and give it gas rite away it makes a crazy grinding noise like the noise my k5 makes when tcase is in neutral and when i put truck in drive...but once i put it back in park then back in reverse it moves just fine......
