I agree with you 100% as far as priceing is concerned but what it takes for a company to build and send me one is around 7000 bucks and I can most definitely wait it out and do it myself much cheaper I’m estimating around 4000 and that’s high.If you limit yourself to the local Craigslist ads and local junkyard it may take awhile. From my experience only a small fraction of people selling truck parts actually use Craigslist. I would recommend reaching out to any local off-road clubs or mechanic shops and start asking around. I have a friend that makes a living from buying and selling automobile related parts (complete cars to used tires, etc...). He's probably bought and resold 40-50 D60's over the years and really doesn't mess with them anymore because of the hassle and low profit margin. The last big round of of these was buying 5-6 early-90's Dodge D60's (considered the best ones because of internal hubs, etc...) out of a junkyard for $150 each after a local coal company scrapped out a bunch of their trucks. Took him weeks to sell all of them even at $500 each. He's was also lucky to get $800 out of the high pinion Ford kingpin D60's (most popular for custom builds) even holding on to them for weeks......again, he does this to make money and you don't have any income if you sit on these parts for months waiting on somebody to buy it for a higher cost.
I will also make the comment to not underestimate the total cost you will have in the swap. If you sit down and add the time and money that may be required to get a "cheap" junkyard D60 ready for your truck it can make something like Boyce equipment look more attractive. I bought a complete K30 cheap for the axle....I don't regret the decision but by the time I put new rotors, calipers, u-joints, wheel bearings, replaced the old style necked down inners with new Spicer inners, new king pin, and replaced the ring pinion and all internal bearings and seals because of damage it really starts adding up. I didn't do anything bling either, but replacing stuff that was worn out or damaged.
Yeah I talked to the guy with the dodge axel . Also saw that k30 thanks.I feel your pain. A lot of guys back east or in the mid-west seem to have a lot more options when it comes to D60's and can get them for $5-800 sometimes less. Out here in CA you're lucky to find one for under $1400 and even then they usually need to be gone through and have seals, bearings, brakes, etc replaced that snowballs the cost even more. I think that one that @skunked linked to above would be your best bet as the price isn't too crazy and the seller has already replaced most of the wear items. There's also a 91 Dodge with D60's for $1400 and a CUCV/K30 for $3500 on CL right now if you want to buy a whole vehicle, yank the axles, and scrap the rest...
