Chevy Dump Bed - PTO from TH400/NP205, Other specs coming in

If you’re curious about the frame being what’s actually documented for the tittle paperwork there is a frame stamping of the VIN on the front passenger side frame rail - I think it’s stamped on the top lip of the “C” channel.
That is correct . Hard to see with body in place or rusty or tons of dirt build up . But yes top lip of frame is last half of vin#

Well it is mine :pimp:

The bad:
Runs super rough, needs a tune up and fresh gas at least.
Running lights not working, no biggie there as everything is easy to ge to on this.
Seats are super high, will take some pics soon and see if y’all have suggestions.

The good:
Frame and chassis are original per the seller, have not verified VIN to frame yet but I don’t see any bootie-fab or anything that concerns me.
Dump bed works great.
The D60 looks new - fresh hardware, new pads and rotors.

I will be driving it a bit more tomorrow but I am a happy dude tonight!

In Santa Cruz County. Have some ideas for it the I can do here while we complete the move north.

We took a trip up the new place Monday, dropped some shop stuff off and did some clean up Tuesday, drove to Carson City NV yesterday, back to Santa Cruz today. Kind of done being on the road but thinking of trailering the K5 up Sunday or Monday…. :doah:

I wish it still had the 4 speed…..

I have never had direct interaction with the Eaton Gov-Loc. Any concerns there?

a G80 is less than desired. they are called Gov bombs for a reason. I don't know enough about them to know if you can swap it our or if you need to change carriers and what not if you want to replace it.

The “Gov-Bombs” are called that for a reason - but the bigger the axle the better they survive.

If driven sanely ( that includes being very easy in high traction situations or heavily loaded ) the 10.5” 14B G80 has a chance of a decent service life.
The problem lies in when the actuators, springs, fly-weights and small parts start to show signs of wear they start engaging abruptly or even fail to unlock and they weren’t designed to handle that.

The G/L carrier is a two-piece split case design with a three pinion cross ( as in three smaller spider gears ) so it is not compatible with an open case that can accept a No-Spin D/L or other type auto locking diffs.
But a two-piece split case that will accept a four way cross shaft will go right in that housing if you decide to replace.

Cab Chassis option lists decoding can be difficult at times.
You got a RPO “C7E” which is a code for “heavy duty chassis equipment” rated at GVWR 11,000 lbs. rating but you also got a RPO “G52” which gives you extra extra high-capacity rear springs rated at 15,000 lbs. GVWR - I assume that the G52 option overrides the C7E base option.
But here is the confusing part - the 4th digit in your VIN is “J” and that indicates that the chassis has a GVWR of 14,000 lbs.

Anyone else got any cab chassis SPID sheets they can post a pic of ?

I don't know if I have any of mine.
I have owned 4 and I have none now but I had pictures of the SPID somewhere

Thank you all!

Got some time to clean and inspect. The 454 has some noises at idle but runs strong under hard throttle. Will be a watching and listening to that beast.

The frame and all under the truck are the cleanest I have seen on a square body and zero rust!!

It does not have the steering box brace and plate, assuming I need that and it is the same ORD unit for all, please confirm.

Thank you for sticking with me on this! I was unable to find the VIN stamp on the frame, might be under the lower rad hose…. Will be googling now to see if I can get a better idea where to look.

Don’t forget to take some really good and clear pics all over under the truck - love them pics !
