Chevy Silverado ZR2 Concept Truck

I dont nessisarily think a new off road performance targeted truck needs a solid axle but it would be nice.

Now if they narrowed the front frame a bit used LONG A a-arms with long half shafts and fender openings designed for big tires and more travel they would be onto something.

The raptor is a well built truck but the video doesnt impress me I used to do that kind of stuff in my 97 GMC 1500. Im just saying from what I have read about the raptor it should be capable of more.

People discredit the 88-99 GM front suspention but in all reality with a few minor problems it performs pretty well in stock configuration. Its when you try to make it bigger that it starts to fail.

I beat the crap out of my ole 97 but it held up to it. It wasnt until I lifted it too much that i started having problems with the ball joints and half shafts. BUT I knew what i did would stress out some of the parts.

I'd have to disagree. The new body style trucks are straight badass awsome.
You can not be serious? They make me want to vomit every time I see one of those low riders with their chicken sh!t little cookie cutter tires. Oh and those huge plastic things on the ends of the front bumper. What's up with that action. It is a focking crime what they have done with the styling on those trucks. IMO the only thing a new Chevy truck has that is worth a damn is it's gas engines. Nothing else on them is worth two wooden nickles IMO, and I mean nothing!! You couldn't give me a Silverado over a Ram or Superduty.

Gee Corey, give us your full blown feelings about em next time....:D

Really, I do not care for that big ugly front bumper on them, but the rest of it is slowly growing on me. I'd be looking at a 07HD (Classic), if I could afford one right now. My 95 Burb, has lost its balls....not that it ever really had any to begin with, but I need more tow power.
And I'm just not satisfied with the gas engines for real towing power. I've driven the 8.1 (4L80E, 3.73's) with 8-9000lbs behind it, and just felt like I wanted more. I think my old 96 7.4 dually (4L80E, 4.10's) did better.

I agree. Maybe it's because were younger. Idk?? I loved my 96. It was a great truck and I would buy another of the same body style but if I could afford it right now I would definitely have a new 08 crew cab

Have you ever driven one? They drive and handle extremely well, have awsome pickup and sound badass right from the factory. The interior is no longer cheap molded plastics. I agree that the front bumper sucks, but otherwise I really like their styling.

Haha maybe... :D

Your correct with the bumper, but well misinformed on the rest. I would take a d-max over a 6.0, 6.4 or 6.7 diesel any day. The gas milage on the contenders is sad.

If I was considering a oil burner from the last 10 years from the big three.. I would certainly like the 7.3 and the cummins. But the interior and rest of the trucks from dodge and ford suck these years compared to a chevy. I still can not like dodge interiors.

Only time will tell.... 25 years from now I wonder how they will drive:D. hell, My 84 dually still tows and drives great and everything works...... well before the engine chit the bed, lol But I have also done a lot of work to it

So tell me Shawn what is it that I am misinformed about? Is it the part that I don't like the styling, or is it the part that I don't care for how they are built? Just trying to figure out where I am misinformed about my own personal opinions and sense of style.

Go ahead and take a Duratrash if you want. Just have fun having it hauled into the dealership just like the 6.0-6.4's. Hell I get tired of hauling those things into the dealerships all the time. The local service writer get's kinda irked when I ask him where he wants the latest pile (yes I use those words). As always it a dead Duratrash or a Allislip tranny, and lets not forget those CV's that love to explode and sling grease all over the place. I wont even touch on the electrical gremlins.

This we agree on. Since you said the last 10 years I will let you slide for not including the 6.2/6.5, but they were different animals.
But the interior and rest of the trucks from dodge and ford suck these years compared to a chevy. I still can not like dodge interiors.
This we disagree on. I prefer the simpler Dodge and Ford interior's over the gaudy 50,000 button and switches and DVD screens door handle breaking dash shaking Chevy interiors.
As for the rest of the trucks! Hmm lets see...

6 speed manual tranny? Dodge-check, Ford-check, Chevy-notta!

Front suspension? Dodge- 5 link AAM solid axle. Ford- radius arm Dana solid axle. Chevy- inferior front suspension.

Ground clearance, frame clearance, axle articulation. Dodge and Ford have Chevy beat hands down on all of them.

I love old chevy trucks and muscle cars. But as for newer pick-ups, I am all Ford. I have a 05 F-150 4x4 King Ranch Supercrew, that I bought because I got a steal on it. The truck is just flat out stout, and stone reliable. I still love chevy engines more, as Ford switches crap year to year and always seems to make the engines to complex with cam phasers, and valve advancing, retarding crap. But if I could put a LSX series GM motor in Ford truck easily, I would be in hog heaven.

The frame under the F-150 looks like a damn 3/4 ton frame. Must be why this trucks weighs a freaking ton, or three. :D

And I also like that all I had to do was add a 2'' leveling kit, and BAM, on went the 35's. lol

Hmm misinformed was the wrong word.

Misguided :p:

The flat boring dash of the ford with crappy seats and the crap plastic easy wearing dash pieces of the dodge were where i was coming from. I love the 95-98 chevy interior as well as the 99-06 ones too. I cant say I find them overly complicated or problematic. My opinion is still in the air on the new interiors on the chevy but the styling is no worse than the brink front of the new ford and the odd slant on the dodge.

My IfS on all three of my trucks has yet to fail me and I beat em pretty bad. Both the factory ford and dodge 1 tons I have been in ride like crap compared to the chevy. And If we are comparing trucks here.. these are tow rigs not wheeling rigs right? So where does articulation, high ground clearance and high frame clearance even factor in? If I bought a 40k diesel tow rig it sure as hell would not be "intended" to be a wheeling toy.

Where Im at on the diesels.. I do not do enough towing to warrant the up front cost and higher repairs cost when parts do fail. The duramax is an amazing power maker.. but the repair cost when things do go bad and the fact that I most likely wont be able to repair it myself brings the suck. The 6.0, 6.4 and 6.7's are no different. Chevy did offer a 6 speed manual behind this motor.. if more buyers had of ordered them they might still be doing so.

I hate dodge interiors and features.. but would love me a 12 valve cummins.. and arguably could do many of the repair or work myself compared to the d-max.

It was 10k for an 06 gasser vs 23-30k for a comparable d-max.. I bought the 10k truck and maybe some day Ill swap in a cummins/5 speed and a solid axle. For now Ill fill up more often and listen to the motor rev on the hills and be happy with truck purchase:D

All new trucks are pure beef when it comes to frames. There is no comparison to the 70s-80s trucks what so ever... Even still much stronger than the 88-99 frames and still improved over the 00-07 style.

I will buy one of these trucks if they make the market! The Raptor is a nice truck it is based on a 1/2 ton chassis (Stop arguing over 3/4 & 1 Ton trucks).

My 1500 z-71 Is AWESOME (except the front bumper, Fab Fours makes a real bumper to replace) The truck has tons of power and still gets 18-20 on the open-road cruising 75mph, and it drives like a dream! I bought this truck because the body lines reminded me of the family's 69' three door 4x4 Sub, which is Classic chevrolet. The interior is down to earth layout button here, switch there, it's layed out nicely no guessing where something is or should be. Ashtray no lighter, just two power outlets on the dash.

Let's be honest why buy a new truck and not expect some luxuries our older trucks did not have!

The First pictures of the Raptor looked not much different than these of the zr2, who's to say there is nothing more to it, or will become of it?

I bought an 06 2500 HD in casper wy in sept of 06. Paid 52k for all the bells and whistles.
I let her get repo'd in may of this year when i got laid off from the oil patch so i have some real world experience with said late model HD. If you want creature comforts...a sweet ride then the 2500 HD is the winner....just don't take it in the dirt...do not install the leveling kit (ie: shocks and green keys) unless you like to spend money on a brand new truck. Shopping for a used 1 ton dually right now with a solid axle....leaning towards the cummins at this point....but a solid axle up front will survive the oil field conditions....IFS will not....even with $2800 worth of Cognito Motor Sports ad ons to help.....so....never again unless i blue wrench the ifs off day 1 and install a leaf sprung dana 60....

The issues i had with said HD were...
Snapped tie rod...
Blown Tcase....
4 Idlers....
4 Pitman Arms...
2 Blown Trans Cooler Lines.
3 Steering Column Bushings
1 Lower Steering Shafts

Top Bottom
