Think this is legit?

This pic is just a rendering, will Chevy make something that looks this good?

Not if old Mary has anything to do with it. I dig the rendering though.

Chevy has the “Reaper” to compete with them. Rendering looks good.

That truck would offend their grandpa clientele so they won't actually make it. Anyone remember the SS silverado that was supposed to "compete" with the lightning? That's what Chevy will do with this truck.

They already have the "Trail Boss" which is the current off road version. Makes me cringe when I see the commercial and they blather on about the 2" lift and Rancho shocks.

If I bet anything the raptor/trx fighter would be a Silverado with all the Colorado ZR2 tricks. Front and rear lockers, DSSV shocks plus the 6.2 engine and 10speed trans. They can work in some other goodies to justify the price they would charge for it.

The zr2 tricks would be sweet but a 420hp engine isn't gonna cut it with Ram at 700 and the rumors of the next gen raptor being above that. Heck the current raptor with an ecoboost is 450hp//510tq. The article points out that even if they do put the new supercharged 6.2 in it'll still be less than one or both. I love chevy but they really don't try to compete in the performance truck market. They have the vette and camaro for performance and the camaro has been playing second fiddle to the mustang for years now. The zr2 is cool but it's a dang mid size truck. It's the only one in the performance off road market so it was a safe play for Chevy. They won't risk taking their bread and butter silverado and trying to make it actually beat the other two. I'd love to see chevy build something to actually compete against these two but I won't be holding my breath.

Bilstein shocks and a sticker? Oh wait, that was a while ago....

I wish they would really do it but I'm not holding my breath.

A truck based 6.2 with a LT4 style Blower would be a good starting point. But with GM focusing on electric I don't see them going for the jugular at Ford or Ram with this truck.

Besides, when you really get down to it, you don't need 700hp in a truck like this. I know it would be fun, but just like a Z06 Vette or a Hellcat-powered Challenger or Charger, you don't need that much in them either. To most average drivers, that much power isn't usable on the street. I would think it would be cool to have the option much like a Grand Sport Corvette vs a Z06. The Grand Sport had all the suspension and brakes of the Z06 with the standard Corvette engine. Some called it out as a more driveable car than the full tilt Z06.

A supercharged version for the guys that want to show what a big shlong they have and a NA version for the everyman that doesn't cost six figures.

Uh this is America. We all need 700hp off road machines.

Yeah, I get it. But how many can afford one? Much less actually know how to drive it. If this tracks on the same path as ZL1's, GT500's, Z06's and Hellcat's that get wrecked by goons that got the money to buy them, but don't have a clue how to drive them I predict a good chunk of these hyper-trucks getting wrecked in a similar if not more spectacular fashion. I'm betting some get launched and land like a lawn dart when they get hucked off a jump too fast.

A surprising number of people can afford them when the bank finances things. Most of these vehicles are just street cruisers anyways. Never seen one actually off road unless it's in a mud pit on the side of the road. Now the power wagon is a different story.

It's crazy what gets financed. Escalades push up to 6 figures now. Loaded Tahoes, burbs and yukon denalis are right behind them.

I guess I've got an issue with the prices of new cars/trucks. I think it's insane to take on a car loan with a higher monthly payment than my house.

Oh I agree. I'm looking at 3/4 ton's right now to replace the charger and it's absolutely insane what they want for used trucks. It's almost worth buying new because the depreciation is so low anymore and the financing that much better on new vs used. But the electronics are so locked down on the new ones you can't hardly do anything more than a muffler swap. The new chevy's can't even be tuned at all and people are starting to look at stand alone ECU's for them.

I agree with you that GM doesn't try very much to compete in the performance truck market. And it would be cool if they stepped up with this one.
I don't believe that they are lagging behind the Mustang just because of performance. The little bit of reading that I have seen, it makes me believe that the performance is closer than lots of people would be able to detect. There's marketing and the obnoxiously loud cackling exhaust of the Mustang that lures so many. Just my opinion, of course, and I shouldn't derail this to cars.

A Silverado ZR2 would be fun for a lot of us, even if I have never owned a brand new vehicle.
But I have 5 old trucks!!! :saweet:

This sold for more than 90k never even made it to the lot.

No surprise there. I'm sure the "market area price adjustment" was pretty steep.
I just hate seeing folks get gouged over specialty cars and trucks like this. When we sell a new vette or a Camaro ZL1 we don't inflate the price. We sell at the sticker price. No adjustments for the market.

I'm not feeling that TRX...and I gotta say of the big three right now, if I had to buy a 2021 model it'd be a Ford. :yikes:

Prolly gonna keep my '17 GMC for the foreseeable future.

GM already went all in on the Hummer EV as the top of the line off roader. Zero chance of them pushing a high end gas truck at this point.
