I know what ya mean about the ride height and not realizing how fast you’re goin in those things.
I drove a buddy of mines 2023 2500 Duramax ( whatever the engine code it is now ? ) back from Mississippi to Florida last month and wasn’t aware that I was doin 90 MPH at one point - those trucks are SMOOTH !
Yeah, dropped the kids off at school this morning, driving back home, thought I was going around 60, look at the speed, 72 MPH, doh! I better use the cruise more until I get used to it.
I was watching them all year, finally got ~$5k off MSRP and went for it, I hope to keep it for a long time (knock on wood).
I think DMax is the L5P, how many miles do you think you have to drive to pay for the $9,500 upgrade?
I did the math for that, using the local cost of diesel vs gas, and the difference in fuel mileage, about 500,000 miles! And that doesn't include the DEF, extra oil changes, fuel filters, or the eventual DPF repairs of the modern diesels. If you tow more often and the mileage drops for both of them then the MPG delta is less and the payoff could be up to 2,000,000 miles!
When they took the direct injection technology from the diesels and put it in the gassers the difference has dropped. Then they tacked DPF and DEF onto the diesels where they are literally burning extra fuel just to burn out the DPF, and the ROR on the diesel is nearly never ending now. You do have to take into account resale value, if you plan to sell it, that will hopefully be a long time away for me. I got a new vehicle now I wonder if someone is going to T-bone me or something.
So basically, nowadays you buy a diesel because you want the 975 lb-ft of torque, not because it will ever save you money, can't blame a guy though, torque is awesome.
My son was trying to get in before I bolted the running boards on, I had to boost him up because the floorboard was above his waste.Nice truck.
The ride height is stupid on any newer truck. My RAM 3500 4wd is so high stock, that I had to put my knee on the rocker, then pull on the steering wheel to get in. And I slid out and it hurt my joints. Not to mention destroying the seat. AMP running boards fixed that.
No short jokes.
I stepped over the running board easily in my 1500, I do not in this truck. I tried not to, because I think sliding in and out of the drivers seat is what tears it over time.I can't for some reason use the d@mn running boards.
I have em, but I always step over it getting in, and past it sliding out. It's a habit I can't seem to break.
It adds a whole nother step/action, to getting into a truck, and after about 35 years of doing so, my brain can't process it lol.
If I happen to think about it I can. But 90% of the time I don't.
