On my 85' GMC sierra, i just had the carb rebuilt about 2 months ago along with a whole new top end on the crate 350.

Last weekend while going deer hunting in the mountains, as i started to really climb in altitude, going to the mountains, the choke light keep flickering on the dash. It continued to do this all weekend and until i came back to the valley, where it flickers on and off randomly.

I looked it up in the manual and it said that it had to do with toxic emissions, perhaps being too hot coming out of the engine? The place where it was rebuilt and tuned was several thousand feet in elevation change as well.

Is this just an old light coming on? it has an electric choke, so what could i do about this??
Thanks for your help guys!

Does this have the "electronic" carb with the three wire plug on the drivers side front of the carb?

I hate to say it, but I have little experience with these setups in regards to the wiring.

Do you have gauges? Is your oil pressure low? More importantly, does this truck have a check engine light as well as the choke light?

Light comes on when circuit is interrupted , either by fuse blowing ( wire chaffed etc ) , low oil pressure , or bad pressure sender ( the one on the side on the motor above filter ) .

I have made mine come on wheeling , when motor is at stalling point and oil pressure was low .

im going to jump in on this question i switched my carb out about two months ago and being summer i did not hook the eletric choke up but with weather changing i found the little blue wire and hooked it up finally got it adjusted right BUT oil and choke dummy light is on and stays on. yes same light same spot?? happened about the same time i hooked the blue wire up??

Yes i do have gauges, the oil pressure gauge hasnt made any changes, most likely a loose wire then going to the carb? i check the choke fuse and saw that it wasnt blown...thanks

Check the fuse , that wire when not hooked up could of touched ground somehow . Or your choke itself is grounded out .

You have TWO pressure senders ( OK semantics , one is a switch :) ) on a electric choke truck , your gauge could read fine , but the sender above the oil filter on the side of the block could be bad , going bad , or lose pressure when your moving the rig .

Just a quick clarification...you have one sender and one switch if you have gauges. It matters if you are going to be replacing them, as it's very common for parts places to confuse a sender and a switch...a switch is on/off, or a variation of that, like the choke oil pressure switch which is open or closed based on the presence of oil pressure, while a sender is variable, such as for the gauge.

Oil pressure gauge sender is the big bell shaped one. :)

yeah you hit the nail on the head fuse blown but it was the gauge fuse not the choke fuse but replaced it and all is good i think:bow:
