Help! I'm selling my K5 in a few hours and it just started having issues today! :/

1982 4x4 K5 Blazer with 305 V8

Chugging Issues That Just Developed:

1. My choke light came on this week and it stays on a majority of the time, occasionally it will go off.
2. When I push the pedal to the floor, the engine chugs and stumbles and I can't push past 45mph unless I'm going downhill.
3. It smells like gas, but funky when I push the gas to the floor and gurgles.

I am selling it in a couple of hours and I need to get under the hood or under the truck and do what I can to fix it. I'm selling it for cheap, its a beater, it still runs, but I don't want to give the guy a truck that was running fine when he test drove it and now is having issues.

Things I have done recently...

1. Valve Cover Gaskets
2. Pressure Wash Engine to spot an oil leak (covered distributor cap, alternator and carb)
3. Used stp gumout fuel system cleaner about two weeks ago

Carb problem? Oil problem? Fuel problem? I think its a carb or fuel problem, but no idea... anybody with experience, please respond with some options or advice, I want to get over the issue in the next couple hours and give him the solid running truck that it was just a week ago.

Thanks! If you know specifically what I'm dealing with or can walk me through it because you have years of K5 experience, you can call or text me at 312 four 77 nine 174

sounds like the choke is closed... :dunno:

take the air cleaner off and the choke should open once warmed up...

Thanks. Would that also cause the stumbling and gurgling at 45-50mph?

Also... I just noticed an oil leak on top of my oil filter where it looks like a harness or rubber grommet is loose. On top of that, my oil pressure gauge is at zero and doesn't move.

Of course this happens the day of sale.

Thanks. Would that also cause the stumbling and gurgling at 45-50mph? yup.... and your plugs are probably pretty fouled now too... pull a couple to check for sooty condition..

my oil pressure gauge is at zero and doesn't move. that's never good.. i'm guessing it's an aftermarket gauge of some sort... obviously check your level... if it's not tapping or ticking, it's probably a bad sender if an electric gauge...

.....

I can't remember how the choke is wired but I know some rely on the oil pressure switch to energize the choke. Basically once there is pressure it sends power to the choke. I'm betting the oil pressure sending unit is bad and leaking. Causing your leak, choke problem, and zero oil pressure on gauge.

This. The oil pressure switch stays open if you have less than 5psi oil pressure and it is what powers your choke.
