I have a Holley 80457 on a Chevy 350. On the way back from high junction on Saturday the high idle got stuck. I tried some WD40 and some carb cleaner and that didn't seem to solve anything and ended up just shoving a rock in the actuator to keep it from kicking on. I've had problems with this choke before (finding a igntion switched 12v source) and I'm tempted to rip it out and replace it with a manual choke (if they make one for my carb).

Any suggestions?

Obvious question: have you made sure all the wiring is done up correctly? I had the same issue in my 81 Jimmy with the inline 6, couldn't for the life of me figure it out. I come to find out that the wire leading to the choke was there, but not fully plugged in. Gave it a little push and life was grand.

Run you a new wire from the main power wire on the distributor to the choke. If you have to, cut a 1/4" wide strip of tin to slide into the plug so you can attach a female wire connector to it. Thats how it is on my blazer and dually and it works fine.

I'd find another hot wire with 12V only when the key is in the "on" position...tapping into the HEI power wire can reduce the voltage to the module & coil, and they need a full 12V to work properly and love longer...there are empty spots in the fuse box that get 12V only with the key "on"..make sure it gets no volts in the "acc" position,or else your choke will be on while your sitting parked listening to the radio!..

Maybe that's why my battery is always going dead lol I have it hooked up to an always on block that's mounted on the firewall. Would that be why the choke is getting stuck on high idle? I also notice the black plastic cover is broken as well.

Here's a thing though, I don't have an ACC. I have Off-On-Start. Also, is there supposed to be an underhood fuse box or just the one near the driver's kick panel? I seem to be missing one.

Only the 88 and up new style trucks had more than one fuse box ,far as I know..I cant see your truck from here,so I dont know what year you have!..

if the black cap is broken, chances are the heating element got busted too,and the choke will not open if it gets no heat,so that may well be your trouble..you must have a aftermarketignition if you have no accessory position ...depending what you hooked the choke wire too,it might be "hot" all the time, just like hooking it to the battery--that will let the choke stay "on" and open the butterfly, leading to hard cold starts and a dead battery if it sits a few hours!..

ACC on these rigs is a turn backwards from the off/lock position where you can remove the key. Put the key in, push and turn back, should work.

I guess I probably should've posted that lol

It's an '86 GMC K10, so the only fuse box I should have is in the cab right? The black cap wasn't broken until I inadvertently broke it trying to get the choke unstuck. Can those be replaced?

I'll post up a picture when I get home. I'll try the turn backwards trick. I completely forgot some of these older trucks had that lol
