.. ours come out every year and sit in trees and are loud and nanoying and junk and the birds catch and eat them left and right and theres shells exoskeletons that they shed just after coming out of the ground from their tomb.
now they can fly after shedding the exoskeleton,

i swear ive seen pics of cicadas in a book and shows them to be like rust colored almost and smaller. but ours here arent anything liek them really

I think the way it goes the locust is the female? the Cicadas are the males... the males only come around every 17 years. They are huge, any where from the size of your thumb to half the size of your palm. I remember the ones many years ago, I was about 9-10 and we where camping... THEY ARE SOOOOO loud because there is so many of them all at once /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

i think there are different year cicadas, like a 3 year 7 year and maybe something else but 17 or 13 year ones is the largest group here on the east coast, in the news papers there are like ways how to cook and eat them /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif

yeah as i remeber they were big enough to shoot with a bb gun

Ahh, I remember these guys. Thought they were mostly harmless? Your right, it was at least 10-15 years ago that I saw these guys.. all over our trees, were the shells. I've acutally found a few of them throughout the years in their flying state, guess they woke up too early.

I have also found a bunch of them while harvesting worms for fishing. Damn, they are scary when fresh.
