CK5 Rubicon Trail 2014

Well, what have you got? :ears: Maybe we can figure out how to get you set up to do it in the next year!

Hmmm... build engine/trans/case, install said engine/trans/case, wiring, drive lines, shocks, steering, fuel system, bumpers, sliders, bead locks... Dang, I got some work to do.

Sounds like mine haha

Interesting! I'll have to look into that. How many days do you usually take to do it?

And, I know this is splitting hairs, but to the best of my knowledge, if you take the Loon Lake-Tahoma route on the Rubicon, it is 18 miles. As you probably know, the trail technically goes from Georgetown, CA to Tahoma, and is closer to 30 miles. NorCal_Chris can speak better than I to the section between Georgetown and the location where the Loon Lake route meets up with the Rubicon, but as I understand it, this section isn't as challenging as the route between Loon and Tahoma.

Dusy is 2-3 times longer, ru s through a narrower corridor between two famous wilderness areas and has no bypasses for the obstacles. Rubicon may have a couple short obstacles that are marginally harder, but the Dusy is "relentless"... You work for it the whole way... The views are more than worth it, and the Dusy gets less traffic than Rubicon so you're not dealing with the drunk foolishness at Buck Lake and borderline harassment from certain LEO's. If you rate the rubicon as a 8 out of ten, the Dusy is a 7, but the remoteness makes it feel like much more.
Both trails should be on a wheelers bucket list!

Nice. I'm definitely going to have to schedule a trip for that too! I haven't had the disappointment to see people being douche bags out there, like you describe, but that's part of the reason I only will drive it during the week.

I've got a 90 V2500 Sub 350/400/241 with stock 3/4 tons, 4" lift with 315s

That's an awfully clean Suburban to take on the Rubicon! I'd say if you want to go, and keep your rig looking nice, solid sliders, bump stops to keep your tires out of the fenders, and a locker are a must. If you put a Detroit in the rear, all of those things are pretty easy installs/builds.

You've got 35s? We'll get you through it

Why does this worry me

All things I plan on doing. I've been talking to the wife about building a K5, she's slowly coming around.

We took a Jeep on 35s through and he did alright :thumb: You've got more wheel base which will both help and hinder you, but generally help.

Just gotta watch not to get high centered or lay your frame rails, transmission or transfer case down on a boulder. We'll be able to spot you though most things. The only part that may be tough is climbing steep faces with your big overhang out back. If you don't have a trailer hitch, I'd put one on to have something to drag on vs your bumper :waytogo:

Dusy Ershim and Rubicon are both on my bucket list of trails to do.

Not a real good chance of me making either one of the planned runs but I will eventually

I live an hour drive away from the Dusy, if anyone ever needs a room to crash on their way there, or recovery on the trail, just hit me up.

This would be awesome if I could finish the rig by then. Just need the cash and time to make it happen.

and some help......
