Money returned to my CC this morning. Capital one really does knock customer service out of the fugin Park. It's crazy when companies do what they say they will... Hmm..
Thanks for the suggestions and help guys. Now I know to price match with summit!
Yep, most CC companies will instantly refund your money and then open an investigation. THey also will not pay the vendor for the transaction until said investigation is complete. Even if they may have already paid them, most large CC companies have one monthly payment to most large vendors, like Jegs, and they'll just sack it out of their next payment to them. Some CC companies are faster at this than others, some err on the side of merchants, some on the side of the consumers. It's a balance for them for sure. Typically you have to provide some information about what happened either in an online form or over the phone to the 'investigator' and they'll do the same from Jegs and make a determination.
But, just the act usually gets the merchants attention, for sure. You don't want to use frivolously for sure, your CC company will catch on to that behavior fairly quickly, but if you have a legit case, and a couple rounds with the merchant itsn't yielding results there is no reason you shouldn't open a dispute with your CC company.
I was 4 rounds with an airline once about a flight they cancelled due to their own malfunctioning equipment, from my originating airport, I said I now didn't want to go as it was a 1 day business event and I'd miss it now, the gal at the airport pushed alot of keys and said I'd see a refund on my CC with a day or two. When I didn't see it a week later, I called, they said my ticket, which i bought online from their actual website, not a 3rd party, originally, was converted to a "paper ticket" (not sure that even existed, this is only a couple years ago, I sure wasn't given any paper ticket)..and that I'd have to go to the airport with my paper ticket in hand to get a refund? WTF? I said, no i was not given any paper ticket, I never bought a paper ticket, I bought an e-ticket, and I never authorized or was told about any 'paper ticket' conversion, and I have a refund reciept in my hand saying you refunded my money to my CC. They were like, sorry, we can't refund paper tickets and basically tried to say I bought a paper ticket originally anyway and that I wasn't being truthful with them. Enough of that crap, one call to american express....money refunded instantly investigation opened. Suddenly, a call , not 2 hours later...from the airline, they'll refund the money. apparently they get some demerit points from someone somewhere if the CC company has to sack them for the transaction, they wanted to do the refunding.
