Class 7 & 8 big rigs

I cant post pictures itd take too long being that i test drive a truck or 2 daily...(diesel tech)

A General is fairly rare around here, much more rare with a kitty!! Then it even has a big front axle since it has 425's on the steers!

I pulled quite a few reefers behind the wrecker, some even without the tractor,,,no pics..

I towed Doug Herbert's KW hauler one night! That would have been a cool pic!! Too bad it was midnight.

Generals are rare around here too...I`ve only seen a few driving around in the last few years. I wish we would have bought a Kenworth.
I need some parts for the General but I`m going to have a tough time finding them. :doah:

As for the front tires..the truck has the worst turning radius of any truck out there...it sucks to drive in town!

I miss the General we had , it had a 8V92 Silver and a 13spd O/D with 4.63 gears . I started out driving it pit to pit in the summer stock pileing when I was 12 with an old crusty end dump. as I got older I would shuttle pulp wood from the landing to the main road when it got really muddy . Just chained up and let her buck!! Laid it on its side once and T-boned a Bronco II ( thats another story) .

What Finally killed it was my bone head cousin . we were hauling blast rock in side dumps and he got to close to the egde and was going to fast........ended up rolling the trailer and bent the **** out of the frame.

I'll never forget the sound of that old Detroit wound up under load with 6" straights.

The most unique sound! A screaming Jimmy is always badass under a load!

I ran a Timberjack skidder with a jimmy in it for a summer in B.C.
I still remember the sound of it a WOT. :thumb:

My brother used to run a yarder with a v12 Detroit is had 2 superchargers on it. I never heard it run though.

12v71 I'm sure. You could get those in trucks decades ago. Might have been a 12v92. but not likely.

this is a 12v71 standby genset I used to work on. turbo and aftercooler is different on this than would be in a truck though. It was a 500kw genny iirc.

Guy I use to haul cows with in NM had a w900 with a 12V71 sounded bad ass but it was heavy and didn't have the power that you would think it should have. and it was turboed as well.

I've got a bunch of Freightliners, but who cares.

I've got just one Pete......:pimp:

they worked good in rock quarry trucks though. The quarry I worked at we had a couple old KWs with screamin jimmys in em

I don't mean they didn't "work" just 2 strokes just don't make torque like a 4stroke. they kind of suck at pulling grades.

that Pete looks custom built to me! It's cool, but it looks like it still has a flip hood. How the h*ll do you reach it to flip it open???? Not that one could open a butterfly hood that high up!!!

I don't drive them much except for around the lot, but I wrench on these types of things...

Along with the occasional dump truck, garbage truck, street sweeper, sewer jet truck, hydro-excavator, and other ****.

VERY custom. Build thread is in my sig. I can reach the hood handle to pull it over, barely though. Being 6' 5" helps.
