The best stuff I have found to remove grease and gunk, is Castrol Super Clean. You can usually find it at the auto parts stores or Wal-Mart for around 4-7 bucks a gallon and it comes in a purple jug like antifreeze. This stuff works wonders, and it is biodegradable and water soluble. I will usually take a tub a little bigger than my part, and fill up about an inch of cleaner and using a brush and scraper, clean everything and then rise off with the hose. great results. Caution though...this stuff is caustic and WILL remove the first few layers of skin if you use it without gloves. It will also remove paint if you leave pieces in it to soak. A few shops that I know have now replaced thier solvent with this stuff since it is cheaper and works just as well without being flamable.
