Okay I know I need a new clutch but the only time it seems to slip is in 4th gear, have done the whole shift down thing to see if the clutch is bad and that test makes it seem fine.

I just want to be prepared when I do it, I am guessing the rear main is leaking so I will get a gasket kit and regasket the motor while it is out(yah I will just pull the motor to change the clutch)

So any other ideas of what it could be?

The truck is a 73 2wd dually 454 motor

If your clutch is slipping it is ready to be replaced. Generally you will notice a failing clutch in the lower gears rather than the higher ones.

if the rear main seal is leaking its possible that its gettin on the clutch at higher speeds, b/c of the air circulating under the truck. over time im sure you know the pressure plate starts goin out and causing the clutch to sleep

Yah I am just hoping the flywheel is good still, this truck had led a hard life free of any kind of mantainance before me
