CNC Mill / Machine shop progress

Yeah I as just giving you a little car brand type crap:D
I've also never ran a haas but have run the fadal and hated it.
Like you I've about run them all and the best machine imho is the mori and best control is the hurco but the worst machine by far would be a hurco.
I've been using the blaser now for a few years and it just works but have only used the 2000. We cut a wide variety of metals and plastics.
Lately i have been wanting to research a way to separate the water from the coolant so its cheaper to dispose of the old coolant.

Again best of luck to you:thumb:

No worries, and thanks. I really have always liked the Okuma's. Very easy to manually program and just easy machines to run.

Two things...

Our coolant always smells like death after a week or so in almost all of our machines. We just live with it.

Also, I hear people talk crap on HAAS (and I know here you were just poking fun chevy/ford kinda thing) but I will say almost all of our turning centers and lathes at school were HAAS and you have to know those suckers got crashed all the time. They lived in a school machine shop where everyone was just starting out.
They still ran great and would make some decent parts so they must be doing something right.

EDIT:
OH! I just realized this was my 10,000th post! What an awesome thread to post in to break that milestone! :)

Haha! Congratulations on the 10K bud! :waytogo: I'm honored . I may even look into a finer filtration system. I'll add additives or whatever I have to to keep the coolant smelling ecent. none of our machines at work smell. They are serviced very often though.

Here are just a few pictures of some of the things I need to do and have gotten done so far. One of the air system filter bracket I made out of a slab of hardwood. I just pencil drew it and bacd sawed it out and sanded it up halfway decent. Filter fits great. Getting mounted to a 2 x 4 on the wall. Another item has been running the air system line throughout the garage. Finally got all the lines ran to the air chuck manifolds when we'll connect air hoses to. And ran a line to the mill too.

The spindle is still in the shipping configuration in these pictures. Mill is fully setup and funtional now though.

Last pic of the mill, the filter and the wood bracket I wipped up in about 20 minutes and the air system pictures.

More air line pictures. I still need to run one line to the dryer and add in the regulator it's 100% done. I prefer the push in style of air couplings but have these manual retract style air couplings so I figured I'd use what I got instead of spending more money on something I already have. I had to fabricate the aluminum bracket for the manifold where the red hose is coming out of the bottom of to be able to mount the manifold to the mill with.

:waytogo: Ohhh man, this post is just full of all kinds of good stuff! Love how your posts are always full of great pics too.

That air line sure turned out nice. You've convinced me now for sure that's what I'm gonna do with my garage now too.

I can't wait to see the awesome stuff you're gonna churn out with that mill - the console looks like something in an airplane cockpit! :eek1:

Thanks. I have just one short line to install and the air system will be complete. Then its time to see how well I connected everything. I'm of course hoping for zero air leaks, but I won't be surprised if there are some. The distractions recommmend pipe tape and compound. Some I put pipe dope on over the tape, some I just used tape. hope its all sealed up.

Looking great! I can't wait to see some of your 1st products come off the machines.

It doesn't look like that mill leaves much room to work in the garage. Maybe instead of a shed you need another garage to work in :thumb:

It is a good thing we live an hour or two apart. My dad would become your new best friend if he knew that I knew of someone with a CNC mill. We have a small import manual mill and a little lathe and I have a small mig, huge TIG machine, and a plasma cutter. My dad has most of the parts to build himself a CNC plasma table, but he is short on space, time, and motivation to get it done.

I can't wait to see some parts either.

I saw the possible meet up at Burro for shooting. If I wasn't so busy I would consider coming out to meet you guys and shoot. I have a full membership to West End private range in Lytle creek (10 miles from my house) so I usually only shoot there. If you ever wanted to go to WEGC (the back member's area is like BLM land but without the crazy public) I can take up to 3 guests for free. I have the gate code and just go whenever I want. Unfortunately I haven't had much time in the last couple months to make it out there.

Good luck with the shop and the medical scans next week. I have been watching your threads for a long time, but I don't always keep track of who posts as I don't really know anyone on here. I read more than I comment. However, screen names are getting more familiar on here (I suck with peoples names anyway).
