Code 32 EGR UPDATE 10/19/06

10/19/06 Update.

Ok, got the 3 wire O2 sensor installed, checked before starting and the tip was heating properly with ignition on.

Took a long drive. After 30 minutes the ALDL light came on - code 32. So the heated O2 did not solve the problem.

Always comes on during a downhill grade around 55-60mph with light part throttle. Coast-cruise is what I call it.

maybe you have the wrong egr solenoid. You did say that the TBI was swapped onto yout rig, right? Did you use the painless recommended EGR solenoid? I know that some are meant for positive backpressure and some are meant for negative....I wonder if that's the problem.....EGR solenoid is not matched to the EGR valve????

I've got the stock 1990 solenoid to go with the stock 90 EGR valve & 90 TBI system / 90 motor. All of it is matched by year.

I will go check the part number though, could be it is incompatible with the painless kit.

Okay, here's something interesting.

I am running the stock 1990 AC Delco EGR Solenoid #141020064.

Painless calls for the AC Delco #1997111.

Anyone happen to know the difference between the two?

is that 14102064????? I think there are one too many numbers in your post...

I use this one....

Mine is the 1st one pictured - the same one you are using 14102064.

The one painless recommends is the second one pictured - 1997111

I would test it myself then. If you hook up 12V to one pin and ground to the other, you should hear it close... Is it a new one or an old one???

Is the EGR hooked up on the correct port on the TBI???? I am not quite sure if there is a difference between the small ports on the front or not (ie ported or manifold)....

I don't run one and have no troubles with emissions. Got a guy that can program that out on your prom so no checky light........

It's brand new, 3 mechanics have checked and said all is well. But - I will check it myself.

Toby, I'm assuming you need the chip to rewrite the EGR prompt out. Send chip in the mail?

Local. Drive rig to house, go for a quick drive, burn chip ,give $$, go home....

I wonder if the vacuum lines on the EGR solenoid are backwards???? The side with the little foam vent should go to the EGR valve, and the other side should go to the TBI unit. If it's backwards, the EGR has no way to close after it's been open by the solenoid. It needs the vent to allow the EGR to return to the open position when the solenoid isn't active....
