Do they exist. I know it will be somewhat limited.

My problem is the wide part of my hand requires an XL glove but my stubby nubs I call fingers are fit way better in a medium sized glove.

I don't have alot to do this winter but I do have some to do and I need gloves that have just a bit of insulation.

So any gloves for a big guy with stubby fingers

I also have that problem. I've found glovins to be a good compromise. Basically a mitten that folds in half to reveal half length finger covers and then you flip it back closed when you get done. Not a perfect solution but it does work for most things.

I use a set of glovins with a thin pair of wool liner gloves from the army surplus store. The only time a flip the mitten down is when I'm brushing snow off of something and the liners are thin enough for decent dexterity with my fingers.

I wear some For work that are excellent to work in. there isn't much insulation value to them but much better than nothing and my hands get used to the cold quick. I'll try and track down the brand in the morning as I get them at work.

I need 3x or 4x, depending where they're made....keeps me out of hock with our safety dept.
We're not supposed to touch any piece of metal bare handed. I tell them to relax, I have man hands...:thumb:

I've got short fingers and found that the Mechanix brand seems to fit me reasonably well although I buy a size down and let the leather stretch across the palm. They do have some 'winter' versions, although I haven't seen any here in Arizona. Been using the cg-40 for shooting and haven't had any problems w/ manipulating the controls.

I have some trouble with gloves, too, having short fingers with a wide palm. I measured to check for those Schmittz Mittz and according to their site, with my hand at 8" long and almost 10" around the knuckles, they say size Large where I'm more comfy with XL on other gloves. I have bought leather gloves a size smaller and taken the time to stretch them out but that takes a while. There needs to be a line for short/wide people.

The only solution that I have ever had is stacking gloves. We have these thin rubberized over spandex type gloves that are great year round for working on anything. I wear those under insulated leather gloves in the winter. If I ever need to do something that requires feeling, I just pop off the outer glove for a few minutes.

I like a radiant heater shining on my hands while I work. I always end up taking the gloves off when I wrench on something.

How cold are you talking? If you're just looking to fight a little chill w/out losing dexterity, use FootJoy winter golf gloves. The leather on the palm and fingers is about twice as thick as a regular cabretta leather golf glove (still very thin and tactile) and they have a thin polar fleece back. I needed something to wear while patrolling on the motorcycle for cool days that wouldn't prevent me from going to the holster or handling small things like IDs. This was the best I came up with. They were good down to about 50* w/ the windchill of riding (I did have a fairing) and a little cooler for everyday wear. They were every bit as warm as my cotton lined thin leather dress gloves. The best part is they come in cadet sizes for those of us w/ short fingers. Batting gloves were the next best but they didn't come in cadets and the mesh back was not nearly as insulating as the polar fleece back of the FootJoys.

Wind up here is rare in the winter. So very little wind chill.

I also understand you can't have good dexterity with a glove that will keep your hand toasty is subzero temps.

Most temps would be between 0 to say 40.

I often use a pair of Mechanix gloves. They will be my choice for working outside today at 25* (I guess we're in a heat wave, next week I will probably want heavier gloves :dunno:). I've never thought my fingers to be stubby, and the Mechanix gloves seem to be a little short in the finger department. So they might be just what you're looking for. But I don't think I'd wear them at 0* for prolonged periods of time. But check back with me next week when we get into negative territory and I'll give you a glove report. :)

I like the mechcanix gloves. But I have to buy a size too small. Hence I can rarely get the wrist closure to stay closed which is annoying.

My real problem is my fingers.

Lots o good suggestions guys got some new ideas to try.

My normal suggestion is to chop some length off of super-long fingers, but that really doesn't help in this case. :dunno:

Relevant lesson from the day: If your gloves have enough holes in them, it's kinda like not wearing gloves at all. Might be time for me to replace at least one of my gloves.

I use the regular mechanix gloves. Thin enough where you can still grip bolts and tools but still give you some cold protection. I see you don't like them for your reasons. But they make a few different models. Might be able to call their customer service and see if you can get custom ones at a decent price.
