Are the older gas stoves that much better than the new ones? There are a few on c-list but they are not listed as dual fuel and that was my primary reason to want one.

There is an older three burner but I'm not sure I need that much of a stove.

I've run unleaded in my old stove. Why are they "dual fuel" now? Probably because its so hard to leaded gas these days:D Try to use ethanol free if you can find it.

I don't think anything has really changed mechanically as far as the generator goes. I believe most of the new marketing is exactly that, marketing. I do think the older stuff was made of thicker metal, and brass was frequently used where plastic and aluminum are used today.

Well, in that case there are a few older ones on CL that I'll look into. Thanks guys!

Picked these up last night off Craigslist for $50. It's a 425F stove, a 220K lantern and a brand new Lodge Logic 8" pan. Lamp needs mantels and the stove has a little rust in the back and probably will need the valve rebuilt as it's sitting full of old fuel. The manifold it's a bit rusty but I think it will clean right up. Ignore the mess, we're working on the bed room so it's spread all over the house.

If it's Coleman fuel in there, the fuel should be fine. I don't think it has a shelf life.

Good info! Looks like both my pieces are from 1983. One year older than me!

Ran to Wal-Mart this evening and grabbed a pack of mantels. The lamp works! Need to get some more fuel for it to do a full test but so far so good.

Decided to try it again tonight since the mantels are burnt in. Looks like it had enough fuel after all. I love the amount of light this thing puts out!

Love those lanterns. I may buy one just to have. Just when I go camping I hate bringing more than one fuel.

Started and ran the stove today! I added a little Techtron fuel injector cleaner to the old gas in it and ran the tank dry. Now that it's empty I'm going to strip out down and clean up the rust. It also needs a needle valve packing.

I'm thinking just wire wheeling the inside, clean it up with some sanding and a little thinner, then painting it with BBQ paint. After that and cleaning the manifold I'll season the inside with some vegetable oil to help stave off future rust.

The tank needs stripped and painted too where it was sitting against the rusty part of the stove body.

Anyone got any good "one pot" recipes for the camp site?

The first time you cook bacon on there, you'll add plenty of rust-prevention Lol. Mine is getting pretty gross, it needs to be cleaned again.

I have a pair of iron skillets from lodge that lock together in to a dutch oven. I like to do biscuits or cornbread in there with a layer of Bacon underneath. Same can be done with pork or game hens, but I like to add mustard powder to make that nice crust that locks in the juices since they are leaner meats.

The prepacked in marinade tri tips at Costco are good if you dump the whole thing in there with the juices. Add some water and potatoes, garlic, cumin, cayenne, onion salt, etc. Then just cook it on low. Throw a few coals on top if its cold or windy.

We do a smores-pie cuz we're lazy and we get to spend more time in the hot spring drinking cassuelas if we're not having to prepare idvidual smores.

If it was thin surface rust I wouldn't worry about it but it's thick, scaly rust that's going to destroy it if I don't get something done soon. It looks like it has sat in a building with birds. There are a lot of feathers in the stove body.

Wal-Mart had their Coleman folding oven priced $17 last night, so I grabbed one. It actually rang up for $11! So now I've got the full camp cooking rig!
