Ordered my valve packing last night and got the brushes to clean up the inside of the stove body. Hope to start cleaning it up this week if it stays nice.

Will regular paint stripper take off that heavy enamel?

Got the packing a few weeks ago. Hoping to strip it down next weekend and get it going! Hoping to cook supper on it one evening with the kids.

Cool!

We just pulled our dual-fuel cook stove out for the summer camping season. Hoping to get it in service before too many more days. :)

Awesome! I'm looking to try some quick camp type fare and try to cook a Toastinos pizza in my camp oven just to see if I can.

I saw a mixture of instant potatoes, chicken gravy and precooked chicken made in a single pot that sounds like a good start for a quick eat and have been looking for some other quickie one pot meals to try. I also want to try some sausage and maybe eventually biscuits.

I'm getting as bad as Paul. It's all in paint and drying and I'm contemplating stripping the body, tray and wind screens to reverse the color scheme. I'm not going to do it cause I'm lazy and have put enough money into this $15 stove but I'm thinking about it...

I'm curious as to why you painted it orange vs. the forest green that seems to be Coleman's favorite stove color. Did yours start out as orange? :dunno:

Only green I could find was lime green. Figured if it's going to be the wrong color, Chevy Orange is the best choice!

Thanks! Hoping the tank had time to dry while we're at supper. May actually let it dry all week to set up good before I go putting it together but I want to get the tape off it so it doesn't set up too.

I think I'm going to cover it in my unused sticker collection as well for that "I'm a big redneck kid" touch.

What would you guys use to seal the valve to the tank? Just regular Teflon tape? I'm about ready to assemble it and put the last couple touches on it before starting it up. I decided not to do the stickers though.

Didn't get around to posting it in time, but I think the stickers look sorta odd on the stove. FWIW. :dunno:

For the valve, I would use Teflon tape.

Pretty sure the stickers would burn. If I use a big skillet, the bottom of the stove gets hot enough to melt a plastic table.

Oh, man. :doah: You're right. And I didn't even think of that. :doah::doah:

It would depend on how long you run the burner, of course. I sometimes use my dual-burner stove to run a pressure canner (never have enough burners on canning day). When I run a 2-hour cook time, that whole thing gets hot, and I wouldn't want any stickers anywhere (I have a few spots where the paint has started discoloring). There's a reason the fuel tank goes outside the box!

For shorter burn times (like you would see while camping), it may or may not get hot enough to notice. But I wouldn't wanna run stickers on my stove.

Can't believe I didn't think of that right away.

That's a good point about the stickers, I never considered that either. This is my first stove like this so I'm not familiar with how hot they'll get running. Hopefully I'll get to cook something on it soon though. I want to try pancakes and sausage on it and bake something in my oven.

So we went to Harlan wheeling this weekend (not the K5, still in pieces). My buddy took his Dual Fuel stove and I brought my lantern and wow, that was so nice to have in camp. I picked up a Coleman stove stand on sale a few weeks ago and we had the full setup there. Cooked some hamburger steaks and beans the first night for supper and it was really nice having meal out there that wasn't a cold sandwich or stick roasted hot dogs. Not knocking those cause we'll still eat them, but I'm seeing a big pot of chili getting cooked the first night from now on to have to eat during a weekend or all kinds of stuff that can be whipped up quickly.

The light from the lantern was awesome too, made for a nice camp. I'm dying to get a percolator and start making some decent stuff with this thing. The need for a parts run ruined our sausage, pepper and onion mix breakfast the first morning.

Nice tale!

I'm thinking about getting a set of the GSI Glacier small nesting pot/pan sets. Anyone have an argument for getting either the medium or large set instead?
Specs:
Small: 1qt pot, 1.5qt pot, 2 dual-use frypans, lids, 2 cutting boards, Diamond Gripper and mesh bag.
Medium: 1.5qt pot, 2.5qt pot, 2 dual-use frypans, lids, 2 cutting boards, Diamond Gripper and mesh bag.
