Well the 305 in my Blazer is tired and not running well. Im in the procces of a 5.3 vortecswap. I have all the swap info. The part im wondering about is Emissions. I live on the Denver area and we do have smog. I have read all over the internet but nothing to my criteria for an ls swap. What are the laws and how do i go about the swap!???

All I have is vague info. A friend of mine swapped a '90 TBI into his '78. He lives in Boulder county. He had to do some sort of certification process through the county. From what I understand the testing will be based on either the vehicle or the engine, whichever is newest.

Just make sure you grab ALL of the emissions type stuff from the LS.

I'm not up-to-date on Denver emmission laws, but I can't imagine they are too different or strict than Dallas. I just finished my 305 to 5.3 Vortec swap in my '86 K5. I had the PCM reprogrammed to delete the EGR, evap, etc, but I kept both front and rear O2 sensors. The front O2s are needed to calibrate the fuel, but the rear O2s are optional. If you plan on having cats, then I suggest you keep the rear O2s (they will tell you if the cat fails). I chose to use cats because I'm tired of smelling fumes.

My '86 only requires a safety inspection, and they don't even open the hood or look under the truck. They basically check lights, horn, and brakes. I'm good from here on out. Best of luck to you. PM me if you have any questions. I'll gladly help you out anyway I can.

No emissions :poo: to deal with down here on Southern CO. Must just be a Denv-exas-forina thing. Once Denver got invaded by Californians they brought their liberal bunny hugger laws with them I guess :dunno:

I went through this on a early bronco I put a 93 5.0 in, swap everything over from/with the new engine. They will smog you for the year of the truck. I was told by Air care, and a couple of shops to just bring everything over. This way you should blow away your emission numbers, and gives them no reason to question the swap.
What year is your blazer? and if it had emission equipment on it that is what they will look for.
But you can call air cares main office.

Thanks for responses guys. I was going to call Air Care on monday and see whats up. I was also thinking about just swapping the engine and seeing what they say. Haha, or When i find a donor truck i will pull the tank, evap canister, and everything with it.
All I know is this 305 has got to go!!!
