no hunting accident, I just noticed no one used a pic of themselves for their avatar, so I didn't want to go against the trend.

Not sure about TX, but in some states you can get away with anything, others it only has to "look stock", others like CA you can't do anything, maybe someone from TX can answer that for ya.

As for what to start with, it really depends on your indiv rig, and what's most important to you, looks, driveability, power, rockcrawling, mud, etc. Maybe if you throw out some more specifics of what you want it to do for you most, some of the big dogs will chime in with ideas. I'm most likely starting with an engine swap from 350 to a GM crate HT 383, but my rig has 250K on it, so I don't really get to pick what I'm doing first, I have to replace the worn out stuff before I get to do the fun stuff (not that a HT 383 won't be fun :D ).

in case you hadnt noticed, you're dealing with a truck, not some light little sportscar. horsepower doesnt get you anywhere, it will just maintain momentum. torque on the other hand, is what actually gets the vehicle moving. when you're dealing with a 6000# trail rig, the more torque you can get, the better off you're going to perform. TBI happens to be great for torque producing powerplants. if you dont know how to use it, or tune it, which most high school kids (like yourself) dont even have a clue about, it is your best friend.

horsepower is how fast you hit the wall, torque is how far you take the wall with you.
