Considering a Suburban Tow Rig

Those are super sketch ads.

That's true. Again, my comment was that $10k should be able to get a nice used model that's fairly recent (as you're getting into new baseline prices).

Here Jesse can have his slide-out for $6500 in a 10-year-old unit.

Or our local dealer has a bunch of 5ish-year-old models for $8k-$10k. Like this one.

And older units get exponentially cheaper, a 1995 slide-in can be <$1000 if you catch the right guy at the right time.

I'm not sure what either of you guys are wanting, but campers are cool. :)

I plan tearing my camp trailer apart and repurposing it into a slide in for BART

A new aluminum frame to start with and most everything I need is already in the trailer

More like this but with no rear overhang

Something like this?

I like that a lot. If I could combine something along those lines with a pop up feature like a vw or sports mobile for head height, but to be useful even with the pop up down would be awesome. I don't know if anyone sells just pop up things for converting vans or SUVs...

If so, I would make a quick box out of SIPs and put the pop up on top.

This unit fits in my truck with the tailgate down. It does not go past the tailgate. I will be towing with my tailgate down, i'll just have to watch my turns.

.....that's the plan anyways.

I agree with Jesse
I don't want to run an extended hitch setup for towing the Maiden, and for my needs camping for two will be the focus, too many people in a small slide in would drive me nuts.

I like this rig....
