Continuing 72 Blazer build

Took a break from all the bodywork this weekend since the floors are more or less done. Installed new poly bushings and a 1" body lift from ORD. Install was pretty smooth. The only hiccup is now it's too tall to exit the garage. We need some low profile tires for the rollers, or we'll be airing down the tires when we want to work outside.

Put the front clip back on the truck today. Checked the front grille fit. 71chevy4x4 wanted some pics of grille fitment. The grille will have to be trimmed to almost the eggcrate portion to clear the abomb.

Also checked the fit on our Griffin radiator while we had time.

All this was done to prep for cage work which should start in the next month or so. It was nice to see her looking like a truck again.

Thanks for posting pics! I'm not willing to cut a large enough hole in my grille to use the abomb with my 8274

What are your cage plans?

What are your cage plans?

We don't really want to invest in a bender setup, so we're looking at some prefab cages. Probably an 8 point with a similar layout to the crappy one we removed.

We're going to tie the gage into some rock sliders and frame points underneath to give us some extra rigidity as we're not going to be putting the rocker boxes back in. It will be interesting to see it all come together.

We ordered a cage from Summit Racing yesterday. We were looking at Bronco Bobs' cage and a few others, but didn't want to pay for freight. So we ended up getting the competition Rhode Racing 10 point cage with tube specs of 1-5/8"X.134" cage and we will go to Summit Racing in McDonough, Ga. to pick it up. The Summit Racing part number is RHC-13-0344,
any of y'all use this cage and have any tips on installation? We may change up some of the setup and customize the cage for a tire carrier in the back.

while we are waiting on the cage to be built and delivered, I want to start looking into the mechanical upgrades. what is everyone doing to upgrade the braking system? what years are best for the 454 blocks? what recommendations do y'all have for drive shafts? Any help i appreciated. Thanks

What year 1 ton 3500 trucks should I look for? Are there any differences throughout the model changes that would make some year boosters better than other years?

Thanks for the replies, gentlemen. I'll look into those parts and that link. Start stocking up on parts while we wait for a cage.
