A buddy of mine runs thornchickens and cuts them similar, execpt he runs them on a demo Derby car with a blown big block.

He has some swampers and a few boggers also, needless to say his midlife crisis is building wild demo Derby cars

I saw that too. I think he had them just laying around and was just messing around with them. Look pretty cool. Wonder how they work? Also, I think they rolled the Jeep to test the cage. I think, not 100% sure though.

Might actually make them worth a chit.

Hrmmmm...set of 33's on CL right now...NO...BAD AJM...

Well I started my reply by saying you got the wrong type, it's a bogger..., then I went back and looked at the pattern, it's a thornbird alright but cutting involved more than just cutting a grove in the lugs, he actually removed entire lugs down to zero to create a bigger void ratio, which made them almost like a bogger.
I liked the idea of the thornbird because it was a smaooth rider on road and could have a good bite once it sank, this definitely wouldn't have a smooth ride, I don't see why you would do that to a thronbird when you get the bogger like that from the factory, I mean it definitely wasn't easy removing these big lugs entirely.:dunno:

Thornbirds have a good look to some and a positive image with the poser crowd. Unfortunately a lot of folks have bought them thinking Swamper + cool look = mud flinging awesomeness.

Then they're sadly disappointed. Off they go for a good tire.

Know 3 good friends who have done this.

This creates a surplus of Thornturds sitting around. Somebody got creative with a set of those extra tires and viola, something that might actually work is created! I've heard folks speculate about this but never seen someone actually do it. Guess it has been done.

my t birds worked great in the sand, and they sure threw the mud up the side of my truck. I think making some nice room in the tread would turn them into a good tire.

Cant make em any worse :haha:

Somebody saying they have a "smooth ride" made me chuckle a little. On paper maybe, but in real life these things rode terrible on the road and were loud. I had a couple friends and 4x4 club members try them out, some were strictly mall cruisers and some mainly trails, and not one them liked those tires.

My guess is the guy picked them up cheap and was trying to got use out of them.

my t birds worked great in the sand,

Really??? Ive never seen anyone with thornbirds like them in the sand. They are so hard walled that you can air them down to nothing and they still sit like they are full of air:dunno: maybe you had the special softwall edition:pimp:

People have been chopping up tires like this for a while. They are not intended for street use once they have been cut. They take boggers and cut every other lug out of them too! Makes for one hell of a mud tire!

Usually like this,

Or even more extreme like this,

Its just done to make them more better off road.

the only reason to run cut thornbirds is that you can buy they for next to nothing, because they are known to not be a very good tire.

they are CHEAP.

Might as well just by tractor tires.

Thats what they are going for.tractor tires work great in the mud, thats what they are made for, but finding one in a 35" tire for a 15" rim is much harder than finding boggers and cutting them
