Coolant Reservoir Tank Options

Interesting that it did not work for you. Well, I'm going to take a chance with this one and see what happens. Fits G-body cars but looks closest to the factory tank. I may have to bend the tabs a little or run a spacer to fit right. They do make some cheaper 2.5 liter rectangular tanks but mounting is not as easy or secure.

Summit round one. It is recovery with an over flow. 50 something dollars. I would show picture but don't know how to.

Shawn....Do you have the Summit part # for that tank... I need one for my LUV truck project, and that one looks like it would work perfectly!

I picked up a reproduction overflow tank from usa1industries for $25.00. It’s holding up great so far for 3 months and seems like a quality tank.

Hey Fellas! The leaking OEM tank is a really old issue. If you look carefully, the nipple that the hose goes over has horrible casting/melting lines on them where the 2 halves go together. They have been that way forever! 99% of the time, that is what causes the leaks. We used to take a razor blade and clean that area up before we would sell them over the counter because we knew that they would be coming back if we didn't. I still have some NOS tanks and they are all the same, a nice sharp casting defect right where the hose hooks up! Razor blade and/or file and they are good to go! Maybe not the correct answer for all of you, but I bet it fixes a few!

Mine was leaking before the hose nipple and running down the fender. No casting flaw on my tube.

Most of the time it appears as if it's leaking before the nipple because pressure from radiator actually forces coolant back up towards the tank and leaks out underneath appearing to be a leak from under the tank. It doesn't actually matter to me one way or the other-just trying to be helpful as I've got a few years of experience with these things. Back in the 90's, I would have people bring these things back telling me they are leaking and I would take a blade to them right at the counter and send them on their way. If I had a newer guy at my parts counter, he didn't always remember to do it before the customer received it. The only ones I've ever seen that did not have some sort of flaw in that area are OEM tanks that were originally installed in the vehicle, and on those if you look close you can generally see where someone cleaned them up.

Good info. Mine is definitely coming from underneath. I'll try to pinpoint the source. It leaked soon as I filled it and never leaked before. I could definitely see how that excess plastic could cause the tube to leak. Mine also had a brass tube on the inside of the plastic nipple. I imagine that helped strengthen the tube for a clamp.

Yep! That's cool that you got one of the last ones with that little tube! Haven't seen one of those in a while. I have some known good used ones--if you want one of those I would give it to you-just pay shipping. I could get you pics if you are interested.

I forgot to update this thread last year with how it looks mounted. Works great. No issues or leaks. Had to bend the mounting tabs a little and added a little foam padding under one corner so it doesn't rattle.
