89 GMC Jimmy, 5.7, bone stock. Occasionally if I let it idle for extended periods of time the temp will rise above T-Stat (195 and new), up to about 210 or a touch higher. I have noticed that if I touch the gas slightly when it does this it will immediately drop down to T stat temp. I am thinking that the fan clutch is on its way out, but thought I'd get some ideas here. I am going in next week or so and doing a full flush, and hoses, may just get a clutch for peice of mind but I wanted to get some ideas for you guys first.

Anyhow, never does it while driving, or if I let it warm part way to T stat temp and then drive.

Thoughts?

One other question, looking at RockAuto I've noticed several different listed, "reverse rotation" standard rotation, heavy duty, severe duty, and then some dependant upon rear axle ratio & AC, or non AC. WTF
I have AC, factory ratio was 3.08 ( I know:doah:).

Thanks in advance.

Actually doesn't sound too high for idle. But, let it get nice and warm, stop it and go out and try to spin the fan.
If its hot, it should not make more than maybe a 1/4 turn after you let go. If you see any oil or stain on the clutch or around the shaft, its toast.
Likewise any wobble or play.
AC units are heavier duty than non AC units due to having to move more air. Standard rotation vs reverse rotation depends on whether you have v-belts or serpentine.

And I guess a 3.00 rear end would cause the engine to normally see lower RPMs than say a 4.56, so the fan or clutch would be different.

But that one is a guess.

I'll second those guess's
