Correct shock mount??

This might be a dumb question but I notice that when I look at pics of different peoples rigs I see the shocks mounted both with the boot up and with the boot down. So what way is "correct". Or does it matter. I have lifted my 81 k10 sub and was going to put the shocks on and then I couldn't remember how the old ones were on. That is what made me start looking. :confused:
 
It depends on the shock. Some have to be mounted a certain way, others can be mounted either way... making it your preference.
 
I have mine shaft up , except one because the shackle flip rotated the mount so far away the tube hits the axle tube and the bolt hole never lines up ........ that shock is shaft down and the hole lines up .
