cost to restore K5 Blazer 1970

I have almost 10k into mine and it’s not even close. I have gotten mine driveable and looking ok for daily driving in the summer. It depends on what you want to do with it and what kind of mods you are looking for. Most self resto is around 20k. Doing it with someone else is going to be 40-60 to do it right.

I am already $2000 in on parts for my 1974 blazer and I am not even close to being done. It wasn't even fun stuff either just sheet metal and missing pieces. I have not even started on drivetrain, axles, and suspension yet.

$10k is a reasonable starting point for parts for a complete rebuild.
I have my 87 that I started restoring in 2005. Lil by Lil. Now I need a good paint job. I’m driving around with it primed on weekends. I can’t even begin to tell U how much it’s cost me over the years, but it’s all well worthed!

I'm close to $20k into my 70 right now. That's the frame stripped and gone through, new bushings/bearings in the suspension and axles, re-gear, disc brake upgrades, wheels/roller tires, all new sheet metal (everything except the firewall). Also included in that is the Nv4500, misc interior pieces and other random things.

Not included in that is any of the consumables (grinding discs, paint, etc). There's a good chunk of money wrapped up in that too.

Also not included is any of the tools or place to work on it. I'm in a 30x36 shop and once you blow one of these apart, it gets crowded fast.

Mine wasn't the worst one to start with that I've seen, but it was pretty rough. It ran/drove when I pulled it in the shop. I've probably got an easy $40k to go before it's close to done. That's with me doing everything on it.

I stopped keeping tabs on my parts costs on my '72 restore. My scenario: The Blazer was given to me by my father (who bought it new). A friend of mine owns a restoration shop and is letting me do all the mechanical work while they did the paint & body. Toomany was spot-on about how it gets crowded when you take it apart...I went from occupying one bay in my friend's shop to 3 for a bit. Last I checked, I think I was around $10-15k in parts alone. I found when I started looking at the cost, I started thinking "well, maybe that can wait," or "I can live with that not being 100% perfect...for now" That's not what I wanted in the project...I wanted it to be restored as closely as "feasible" to how it was when my parents had their hayday in it...with a little bit of my own personalization. With my friend's shop doing the paint & body and me doing most of the mechanical work plus parts, it'll be around $30k, maybe a little more. I am keeping track of the expenses...just not monitoring them again until the project is done. It's not going to be a crawler or a show-winner and never going to be auctioned off in my lifetime. I am also extremely blessed to have a supportive wife who is encouraging me to finish the project amidst all the other chaos going on in our daily lives!
