My daily driver is a mid Honda Accord 4dr. I can lower the back seat and carry 2x4s. I've also carried 2 front fenders in the Honda.

I'm wondering if I can carry a Front dana 60. If I were to take it apart like this it may fit. How long would it be if taken apart like this? How heavy would it be?

I would take it apart, but sure , you could haul one in YOUR Honda  :D

Probly have to take the outers off, be easier to handle that way too. Guessing from knuckle to knuckle is 5 foot or so, I'm 6' and can grab the upper C and carry it.

When I was rebuilding mine, with the ends of and the axles out , the "main" part was moveable by hand. Fully assembled IIRC they run around 500 lbs give or take a little. So that's not much different then hauling a pair of fat chicks in the back :haha:

I wouldn't hesitate to move one in my Jetta, and I have moved big stuff like that before in mine, like 2 SM465's one th400 one 700R4 one 205 and 3 208's all in one trip.:doah:

So this was you!

The hardest thing is going to be getting it in. I hauled one in a Geo Metro but I didn't care about the car.

So no biggie.

I think it would be way easier to disassemble it

Then no problem I think

How much work would be involved to get it taken down like this?

I don't know if it is just me but the link goes to a blank search page.

Breaking down a d60 is fairly easy if it's not heavily rusted.

1: drain oil.........................5 min
2: pulling brakes takes.........15 min
3: pull both locking hubs......30 min
4: pull hubs and rotors.........30 min
5: pull spindles...................15 min
6: pull axles.......................5 min

If it's rusted or the bolts are damaged expect to double those times.

Edit: last time I pulled an axle it only took about 1/2 hour to get it out. Those times are supposing it's the first time you are doing this.

Yeah, you can always get it in there if you don't care about the car. A couple kids brought me a 10bolt front in the back of their hatchback Escort. They didn't even open the hatch, just chucked it right through the window :haha:

wow! :doah: classy!

your a good man Charlie Brown..... and shoehorn it would be.. I'd bet the farm on a smash ding or 2, couple scrapes and a few smashed fingers stuffing 400 to 600 lb's of axle in a Honda.... I used to put BB's in the back of a Honda hatchback yrs ago and that was always quite interesting, an axle woulda been 3x's as hard......
