Re: Couple of teaser pic\'s

Hmm... 40 hours huh? *thinkin*
So, next summer when I show up on your doorstep 'lost', and 'broke down', we should have a pretty doggone nice cage by the time I get repaired a week later then right???? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

In my case I will just remove the topper...

On my buddy's truck we'll get the cage all tacked up, then remove it in sections and weld up the sections. Then re-fit the welded sections in the truck and weld the few remaining joints in place. We're going to have to pre-paint parts of it too.

On my cage I may have to brush paint some of the less accessible parts.

First you'd actually have to show up...then you'd have to find me /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

I thought you had a cage already?

Re: Couple of teaser pic\'s

I sure wish I could find all the details on building a cage with a cab, I want one so bad. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Great job as always Rene! /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

Re: Couple of teaser pic\'s

/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif Looks good man.

What's your plan on the floor mounting attachment points? Just curious, I'm planning on beefing mine up some.

Re: Couple of teaser pic\'s

Naw... no cage. I just have a 'roll bar' over the rear seat for now. Next summer I will be caging the S-10 cab on my frame /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif . I am interested in the attachments of the cage to the floor also. Did you go thru the floor to the frame, or just plate the floor?

BTW, if I do show up... you better be open to a guest!
If not a cage, at least a beer! /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

Looks good, now flip her on it's lid to see how it works. /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

Re: Couple of teaser pic\'s

Floor attachments are a pain. Sandwich plates are a great idea, except in most areas I wasn't able to use them. The rear downbars terminate above the tailpan, half the mount plate and two bolts go through the tailpan (which I just replaced) the other two bolts go through the floor just ahead of the tailpan and into a small sandwich plate. I plan on adding a small tube from the sanwich plate to the wrap around on the rear bumper.

Main hoop plates (3) all sit on the structural support at the front of the bed. The bed part of the truck is a 73 and the front of that is a body support so it's well re-inforced. Unfortunately it's also nowhere near flat so all I could use under there were fender washers.

The front plates I could plate underneath, but I haven't yet. Those ones are easy to get to.

Once it's all done there will be 9 plates and 36 bolts attaching it all to the truck. No frame attachments...I'm solidly in Russ's camp in believing the frame needs to flex to live. Attaching to the frame will create stress risers and would likely make the frame fail prematurely.

Even without attaching to the frame the truck already feels so much more rigid going down the road...

I'm taking the top off today to finish welding it and hopefully throw some paint on it. I'll snap some more pic's then. I also have to build a rear seat support yet.

That's at work...the batcave is a nightmare right now. My buddy's uncle moved and we haven't got the new 'shop' set up yet.

Re: Couple of teaser pic\'s

after tubes are formed and fitted the Halo bar is tacked to the B pillar
then the B pillar is tipped forward to allow the halo to be welded to it
