Cowl Hood Sealing

For all you worried about a decent-sized filter, don't forget there's a good amount of room between the bottom of the hood and the top of the filter bowl. I have the stock 3" tall air filter on my '87, and a 3" bodylift, and I have about 8" of clearance OVER the stock filter bowl.

The Jimmy is getting close to be put back together, we got the new door on, just need to pound out the rest of the dents and put her in the paint booth.

yeh webshots wont allow remote linking, but right click on the pic, properties, and paste that url, and you can see the pics.

Thanks for the pics bullet, little more bracing than I was thinking there was but my super skills in paint, have led me to make mods to the bottom of your hood. In this pic, red is pieces of plate to seal the bottom of the hood, green is the hole cut out, and blue would be new bracing made from some square tubing. Think it would work?

partitioning the cowl

i was thinking that you might be able to somehow partition the cowl to get air to the intake and the engine compartment. maybe use some ducting that opens up to the cowl's opening. this way, you don't have to worry about messing around with the hood itself. you could also close up the snorkel if you anticipate water and use the factory one with its baffles for protection. or you could rig up a vacuum actuated door like the chevelles. just thinking out loud.

another thought...if you utilize both the factory ducting and the cowl as intakes, wouldn't the air just pass in one end and out the other. there would be no pressure created by one opening because it would equalize out the other.

I dont think it would, because the chevelles have a snorkel (however they arent ducted from anywhere, just under the hood. The vacuum operated deal would be SWEET, but would be insane to fab.

Ducting to the cowl wont work, because there isnt a single place that air comes down, its just a huge open expanse.

Anyone have any other ideas, I still aint satisfied with my current plans. I guess I just need to get the hood and start plannin.
