ok so i found a pretty good deal on a cowl induction hood from up22.com so my question is which one do i get to utilize everthing from my current hood?...also it looks like its a 3 1/2 in cowl and i was really lookin for a 2 1/2....anyone know where to find one for cheap?

Ulimited Products isnt known for good quality products, mostly race type stuff. from what i have seen, they are thin and flimsy, and fit and finish leaves alot to be desired. Customer service is supposedly equvalent to their quality.

check out www.advantagefiberglass.net the best quality 'glass hoods i have seen to date, and they're actually a little cheaper than everywhere else. IIRC, its a one man shop.

rjfguitar has one of their hoods on his K5 i do believe.

Yeah, unlimited stuff isn't great. I've used it and hated it! I have a steel cowl on my 89. I got it Keystone auto body for 425.00

Im interested in one of those too for my 84. Just swap hardware? Can it go right to paint or is there something that needs to be prepped om it first?

this might be a stupid ? but with the lift off version...how does it mount?

This a debatable subject... Many will swear you need to strip the gelcoat off, then properly prime and paint... The reasoning behind this is generally a fear of the gel "checking" under the paint...

Considering we put paint over gelcoated boats on a daily basis, I consider this to be somewhat of an old wives tale.. Especially if its a quality piece of glass, handlaid as opposed to a chop gun and a quality gel is used..

If i bought one, which I may get that one down the road, I would just sand it down with some 220, prime, sand, paint...

Bobby will probably chime in on the quality and any recommendations from the manufacturer...

Lift offs are pinned at the 4 corners, not something I would run, but some may want that..

so what are the pros and cons of the fiberglass and steel hoods???also anyone know where to get a steel one cheap?

Unlimited products suck from there workmanship, to there Customer service I order one for my buddies K-5 took over 5 months to get it and it looks like crap . If you want a Glass hood go Harwood if you want steel go goodmark the extra money is well spent

one of the Advantage hoods is very very tempting... I plan on tearing up alot of sheet metal, but I guess a hood is fairly protected from most trail hazzards, right?

I would say no I ruined my harwood on my big yeller turd flopped it on its side and the hood and top of drivers front fender took the damage

Cowl hoods look good but for a trail beater I'd pass

This is the Blazer I was talking about The hood looks okay fro a distance but the closer you look the crappier it looks no way was it worth the 5 month wait both of us were pissed

I love cowl hoods! I have been wanting to get one, but... $$$

So I still would like to know what the pros and cons are for a steel hood vs a fiberglass hood.

steel hoods are just about the same as your stock hood weight wise and fitment wise . Bolt on fiberglass hoods are a little bit lighter and can be made with taller cowls but aren't as strong and usually don't fit as good and take more prep for paint

i dont understand why so many people with offroad rigs want cowl hoods...yeah they look good but htey arent good on the trail...they GREATLY reduce visibility.... If i was gonna get a hood i get one that had the reverse cowl and dropped in the center...

I'd like to put a drop center on my dd but the only one I've found is from U.S. body and they want over $500 plus shipping

Im just saying that for our rigs, at least those of us whp actually off road a cowl is down right stupid. either leave the stocker or go with the drop center.
