In my quest to have as much space as possible in my K5. Im contemplating removing the rear seat but thought about getting some kind of jump seat. I seen an older (60-70s) model Toyota Land Rover and it has back seats that faced each other and sat over the rear wheel well.

Wonder if it would be possible to put some kind of jump seat in the ole K5?

anyone ever do this, seen it done, etc etc

Also, has anyone removed the center console and put a folding center console jump seat between the buckets?

You mean Land Cruiser. :wink1:

A friend of mine has a '67 with rear jump seats but those things are so tiny you can hardly get a guy on each side and some gear before you've run out of leg room! The only complaint about a Cruiser I've ever had is they are tiny, tiny, tiny inside...and people always mistake them for Jeeps.

They would be awesome in a Blazer though, especially if you had a roll cage that could safely get the seats up a little higher in the bed.

I could see maybe doing jump seats, but the issue would most likely be with head room for anyone over about 4' tall. Might not be an issue if you run with the top off, but if you have a cage then heads are going to be very close to the bars. Make sure you have padding on the bars and it might not be bad. I would ask yourself how often are you going to be using these seats? If it isn't very often it may not be a big deal, but if you will be using them a lot, I would think that it would really cause some hard feelings.

As to the center console, I remember seeing someone here had done a newer set of seats out of a Silverado or something that had that center console/jump seat setup, seemed to be a pretty good idea. I had thought about it, but I prefer to bury the kids in the back seat.

I havent used my rear seat in 6 years, sooooooooooooo, that is why I want to remove it, but I do want the option of being able to carry a 3rd person. So the jump seat wouldnt get used ever probably. But I just want a permanent option.

That's why I said, how much will you truly use it. In this case, if you never use it, then it is probably a great option for you. In my case it wouldn't work, just because my kids are back there all the time. But, using just a single jumpseat/console in the front might be a good compromise, and would gain you a ton of useable space in the cargo area, while still maintaining an ability to have three passengers.

yea, i like the idea of the center jump seat between the buckets. I found an S10 extreme back jump seat cheap that I may try as well. Im thinking it would work between the wheel well and drivers seat, there is some room there.

I've seen the late model seats with the jumpseat retrofitted a bunch in trucks but never a Blazer. I looked for awhile, but couldn't find one that slid forward on the passenger side for rear access.

I found a 60's suburban at a junkyard once that had a jump seat on one side and I bought it with the intention of putting it in but never got around to it. It looked factory and had a corner cut out for the wheel well. I sat on it for two years before tossing it. K5 already sits 5 and I guess I didn't see the need to sit 6.

Ive seen the whole setup in a Blazer b4, the buckets and jumpseat, but never just added a jumpseat between the existing buckets. so If it works out, it may be cool. Im going to junkyard in an hour and see what I can find. They said they are only 12bux, so I cant go wrong, lol.

The Chalets had exactly that; seats on each side above the wheelwells, facing inwards. IIRC they only had one seatbelt each side, but would fit two reasonably-sized adults each. Of course, they'd have to be veeeery short adults if a regular top was used. Obviously the Chalet top is a bit taller :haha:

Anyway, it's something I considered, though as mentioned, you'd need some create cage work.
