ive seen wheel spacers up to 3". can i go this wide [6 total] on the front with 1/2 ton axles or do i need to upgrade any steering-[already have drop drag for 6" lift]-90 sub-33s-Thanks, ps very little wheeling mostly snow [not legal anywhere close]

You can, but it is going to put serious strain on the steering components, as well as the ball joints. It is also going to increase the wear on the wheel bearings, since that weight is being pushed even further from center.

It's OK to do this to correct for wheels with a lot of backspacing (like H1s). The bearings and joints have no idea whether you have 7" backspacing with a 3" spacer or just 4" backspacing.

You don't want to do this to make the wheels "stick out" because that makes the front tires travel further forward and back when you steer, putting them in the sheet metal. Plus, there's the stress as stated above

i dont know about mass but they are illegal here in pa.the stress on the bearings and ball joints will be too much also on something like that.you would eat them up real quick unless you are running a high backspace wheel like the h1.as was already stated.i have centered backspace of 4 inches and my wheel bearings still dont last more than a couple of years when it was a daily driver.

sort of?

any "spacers" are illegal -for purposes of widening wheel track for increasing the lift total height[w-track x w-base divided by 2200] since i wont be going higher its not illegal.[in my mind] and my product is labeled and considered ''wheel adapter'':wink1::wink1:--but i might just go the 2'' route to be easier on it -if thats possible--------:D LOVE THAT LOOK!!! ps i dont mind doing the bearings even once a year [when i do my brakes]

good luck with that.id check and repack em every six months on mine.like i said they dont last long on half tons and bigger tires.throwing in more torsional force like spacers just stresses them out more.

thanks guys-ill go with the rears first to match the fronts that stick out-see how it feels and go from there!

So let me get this strait. Your not gonna listen to any of the advice here, and your willing to take the chance of losing a wheel and maybe causing harm to the public. All so you can look cool? Wow! Some people obviously just don't get the big picture here.

I run 1 1/2 in. in the front and 2 in. on the rear on my burb with 37's. my rims have 5 in. backspace. Correctly made spacers are as strong as aluminum wheels thenselves.
I got mine from Fred. http://www.wheeladapter.com/

I don't think the risk of losing a wheel is that high. You just have to torque and retorque the adapters a few times after initial installation. If the tires are indeed only 31s it's not really that much stress on the bearings. I've had 3" backspacing and 35's for like 7 years and I last replaced wheel bearings about 10 years ago. The other side I haven't done ever in the last 12 years (they do get re-packed after water crossings and when replacing U-joints). According to the Autozone warranty records I'm getting 8 years out of balljoints.

A lot of people run wheel adapters/spacers for years without problems. The risk is really in letting them get loose where they can stress and shear the studs. If they are good spacers installed right and checked periodically, it's OK.

However, I'm officially not responsible if anybody gets hurt. And it's your own fault if the truck doesn't steer correctly.

Before you get too carried away with spacers up front, you might also want to explore how badly it will affect your turning radius.

It's going to get worse for sure.

:usaflag:

Is this a cosmetic deal or are you wanting to be even wider for stability reasons? If it's for stability just get some rims with the right backspacing and get some wide 33" tires...
