Need help identifying my create motor. Came with the truck. It has a edlebrock and thinking I need a better carburetor. Would like to order a carb from karbking but I need more info on my motor. The edlebrock is a new 1406 and works like crap even with the off road kit. Now that its hot its acting up, but only when its hot. Seems to be flooding. Anyway need a link or information on identifying my create motor .

thanks

It might be tough to I.D. a crate motor,GM doesn't stamp the codes where they go usually,on the front of the passenger side cylinder head on a pad under the altenator, like an original engine would have had, that consists of part of the V.I.N. # and then a 3 digit code...

Most "new" engines are left blank there,so the original numbers could be stamped in before installation,or it might have only a "CE" suffix code, that stands for "complete engine"...there should be a block casting number on the rear where the bellhousing meets that will tell you what size it is (305,350,etc)..my guess is its most likely a 350 "Targetmaster" or some similar GM replacement..

Maybe the carb is just getting too hot and boiling the fuel, its not uncommon with alcohol laced gasoline..might want to try using a thick spacer gasket under the carb before buying a different carb..

Thanks for the info. Base gasket is about 1/4" has a 190 thermostat. Lopes at idle must have a cam.

I've had good luck with Edelbrocks, but its been since 2003 that I had one...gas has not gotten any better since then (or any cheaper!)--and I read about a lot of issues with them online now, with float and flooding when hot issues,etc..

Lots of posts I have read say they are sensitive to fuel pressure and do not like more than 3-4 lbs...Edelbrock says no,but there seems to be a lot of people who added a regulator and it cured their issues..others found the floats were way out of adjustment right out of the box,or metering rods would get stuck, etc, and needed tweaking to get them "right"..
...all the ones I ran always ran nice, started easy at any temperature, only issues I had was getting the choke set right--and carb icing on cool damp days and nights...(which happened with other carbs too,its more a humidity/weather related issue than a carb problem)....

If you were to replace it and plan on doing any off roading,I'd say a Q-jet is the best all around choice...

edlebrock issues

Guess I should change the title. Went through Carb last year installed off-road float needle. Try to mess with it again soon.
New fuel pump last week end.
Thanks again
