in my burb i feel like i have all of this dead space in the cargo area, especially where the spare tire would go. has anyone fabbed up some new side panels that arch over the wheel wells for storage? i have seen them for pickups, but not inside a burb or k5.

can anyone post up some pics or things that have worked?

I dont have anything to add right now... but, I will be doing something like this in the near future also.

Did you ever build something? I am going to work on this next week and would appreciate any tips.

funny this came up... I was just downstairs cutting the pieces for my storage...

but as usual, it wont do anyone else any good being as custom as it is... :doah:

nah, i just started cutting the "box" pieces today.... and as I implied, maybe ideas for some, but no real practical app for the average rig...

basically what I'm doing is building an 8" deep box on this divider wall thats bolted to my cage...

it will have 2 swing open doors in the bed.. using the same quarter turn latches as my console, glovebox, etc....

inside it will have a series of somewhat smaller cubby holes along the top for smaller parts, hardware, shackles, etc.. then below that it will have 2 full width larger compartments for pry bars, tires iron, straps, etc, etc.... all compartments will have a front wall varying in height depending on the compartment..

and obviously the whole thing is constructed using the same composite glass build techniques i've used thruout the build...

it will be straddled on either side by 2 sub boxes for some 10"s... i'll also be working that out over the next couple weeks...

CB77GMC built some several years ago that were welded to the arch of the wheelwell making the space underneath the bedrail usable with a storage box the width of the wheelwell, took the area from behind the rear seat all the way to the tailgate. They were welded in permanently and PIMP! But, looks like his pics aren't up anymore.

You could do like them but just with sheetmetal welded into place. Make lids with cylinder locks on top of them. It would be a permanent setup but, cheaper and a larger amount of storage (since the space under the bed rails would be usable).

Oh, and Ryoken- sick build bro! Nice work!!! :thumb:

tank ya sir... appreciate it.... :D

I'm really stoked on my storage wall, thinking it should turn out pretty trick... and very functional.. kinda waiting on some other stuff to come in, so I decided to mess around with it today...

the only downside is it cuts into the sleeping area somewhat, but o well, the functionality will be worth it.. I build stuff like this at work all the time, tackle centers, fishboxes, etc... :grind::hack:

still need to order some hinges for the doors tho...

The only problem is the suburban doesn't have any space under the windows or what would be the bedrails its a double wall sheet metal, unlike a pickup or Blazer.
