Ok so I have been thinking about swapping my CC Dana 60 into my K5, and putting the 8 lug 10 bolt into the CC. I don't see any drawbacks as the CC is a DD/ Tow vehicle and it would save me about a grand over buying a dana 60. What do you guys think?

You don't need a 60 up front, in the CC....I mean really.

Worse-to-worse, you can get those Kinpin's that BFF makes, for the 44.
Insta-strength! :D

Yeah I don't even think I need the BFF kingpins for the CC. Im mean its not like it sees off-road, aside from the winter snow but that pretty minor compared to the K5! It will even save me money on the crossover steering!

I have wondered the same thing for my '79, but when I asked around here about braking power difference, several guys said they saw a very noticable difference when they went up to a 60. I really like the brakes as they are, but don't need the 60 up front for any other reasons. I never found out any specs on the brakes to tell me any more, but that has kept me from selling the extra D60 I have as my Jimmy may need it some day!
Maybe someone has input on this??

The brakes are quite a bit bigger on the 60 but just make sure your trailer brakes are in good working order, if I towed a gooseneck or a fifth wheel I think I would leave it because that puts the weight more evenly on the truck so a bigger front axle is needed

Just on road use I am sure there will be a difference in braking power but I done think it would be unsafe

Keep the 60 in the crew cab where it belongs, better/bigger brakes and bigger bearings .

I didn't think about the fact the brakes are larger! I will be pulling 5th wheel and at times a goose neck flat bed trailer with the K5 on it. Of course not until I do the cummins swap! The 350 just doesn't have the power for that load and the hill around here. Thanks everyone for the input, as much as I want the dana 60 in the K5 I do not want to sacrifice the usefulness of the CC!

oh yea..... Dude, I would NEVER put a cummins over a 10b.... :doah:

You could upgrade t bigger, better brakes.
Easy.

But the bearings will hate you, under a Cummins. :haha:

Doesnt a cummins weight like 1000-1100 lbs?

Whats a BB weigh? 700lbs?

A SB 550-600?

Just dont run a big ass heavy bumper that weights 200lbs and do it

Yea... Plus the weight of a Gooseneck, Chris.

In a Burban, I'd say go for it.
But, on a K30.... I wouldn't do it.

LOL! Im not sure how much a gooseneck will actually be affected by the axle swap to a smaller front diff. I towed a gooseneck with my k1400 IFS truck and it did ok. I have to look into the brake upgrades for the 10 bolt front

I was going to do this exact same thing when I got my CC. But it is such a clean truck I just could not seperate the parts so I hunted up another D60/14FF comby for the K5. Glad I did instead of swapping them.

Same here when I got my crew I thought well when I get a blazer theres my front axle.

Fast forward to buying the Jimmy and I just couldn't do it, doesn't seem right.

Fast forward a bit more, theres a SRW 60 sitting in my garage waiting for time and money to go into the Jimmy and the dually still has the proper axles :D

I don't think that even a better 10 b or 44 brakes could compare to the 60s stock brakes

Yeah the braking issue is the only real concern at this point. Although my trailer brakes are great, I do not want to compromise the CC ability to make the blazer better. I guess im gonna have to find a D60 eventually! for now I guess ill get the hydraulic steering for the blazer. I think im gonna go cross over with assist but I am still contemplating full hydraulic.
