Crew cab short box.

He cut 14" out of the frame behind the cab. He said it tows awsome.

Im trying to post some pics but it will not allow me too....i got some videos of my crew cab short bed on youtube... simply type in... 4x4lou on the search engine... leave me a message if you have a youtube account...

with all of this crew cab short bed talk we should start a "Lets see your crew cab short bed pics" thread! Got me motivated to do one!

I wanna see a CC on a regular cab LWB chassis.... Anybody??

I could be wrong, but isn't that what ORD's Cousin Willard truck is? I think I saw one on Pirate4x4 as well.

So in an effort to completely hijack this thread, Would the simplest way to get a crew cab short bed be to just cut down the crew cab long bed frame? Or does the suburban/regular cab truck work just as well but with odd sized beds?

not sure which is easier but I am doing the reg cab lwb. I will either have to cut the floor or body lift to clear the frame hump though.

If I remember correct, the sub wheelbase is 131", while a single cab lwb wheelbase is 129", so I would imagine that using a sub frame wont be much different length wise than using a reg cab lwb. The only advantage I can see there being is that the sub frame will have a longer "valley" to mount the cab before it raises up in the rear for the bed to be mounted. I would personally cut down a crew cab lwb frame.

Has anyone ever done a crew cab swb dually?

I am pretty sure MTMike here has a CC on a sub frame. It has a real short bed like Willard. The only way to make a CC short box correctly proportioned is to cut down the CC frame. LWB and Sub frames come out to short to keep a 6' bed.

I know a Burban frame is quite a bit different right at the back, but isn't it wider through the spring hanger areas as well? I could have dreamt that.

MTmike's truck is is a Shortbed frame with a crewcab on it and it took some doing to make it work.

If you want to have a crewcab with a 6.5 bed you have to cut the original crew cab frame down .

1ft out of the center and 6" off the rear to make it fit right . because that is the difference between a 8ft and a 6.5

Sub frame is shorter as is a 8ft reg cab so you would have less than 6.5 ft bed

Also subs may have a longer frame but they have a shorter wheelbase than a reg-cab 8ft.

I figured it once and the box wouldn't be alot shorter than a short box. I am thinking about flat bedding to start with and building a box like this.

I was told it was a reg cab lwb frame. With a cut down lwb. I don't think a short box has a that much overhang.

There is a thread somewhere on 73-87 fullsize that shows how to make a swb from a lwb truck. Not a crew cab, but the same thing would apply. Said to hack off 14" of frame 6" behind the cab mount, then 5-6" at the very end of the frame.

I'll be doing this soon, so I can found out for sure...
