Cricket in new engine

I haven't yet. I was thinking I should try to find the problem first.

Me, I'd prefer to find the noise. I would however, call about warranty stuff before committing to driving.

Definitely contact the builder before doing too much wrenching on it, don’t want them to accuse you of messing it up.

Zoo just transposed to the crank and cam we all transpose something every now and then

We ran into this on a customer's car a few weeks ago, new engine and trans installation by another shop. I had them trailer it over since they had blamed the trans.
It turned out that they had installed a floor shifter and run the sheet metal screws through the floor to the point the ends were making contact with the transmission case. As the engine and trans rocked around at idle those screws were scratching into the case like nails on a blackboard. It produced quite a chirping noise, especially at idle since it had a little lope to it.

I've been hoping it would be something like that, but because it doesn't start until the engine is over 110° I don't think it's something like that.

I did some more Internet diagnostics today and found 2 people that had a similar problem and were courteous enough to post back with a solution. One was a push rod in a 350 that didn't get enough lubrication and galled the socket in the rocker. The other was a lifter that would partially collapse and they could reproduce the squeak noise pushing down on the push rod.

Sounds like some rocker arm investigation is the next thing to look at. Starting on the passenger side is probably the best bet because when I primed the motor I had the driver side valve cover off and I saw oil come out of all of those push rods. On the passenger side I only looked at the rockers I could see thru the oil fill hole, which is only 2.

So, let's say this a push rod or whatever from the initial build. This would be a manufacturer "defect" or oversight, possibly?

Could be either. Hard to tell unless you see it

Okay, I may have a solution. I filed the warranty claim thru the website and I included a link to the video I posted here. I got a call in less than an hour from a very nice guy in Grand Prairie, TX. He's pretty sure he knows exactly what the issue is and he told me what to check. I'm going to hold you all in suspense until I can see if it is indeed the problem. Hey I'm in suspense too, so you all can share the wait with me. :p:

But I wanted to post up because I am very impressed with the quick, helpful response from ATK High Performance.

Promising news. Kinda unnerving they are familiar enough with a problem to recognize it from a video, but as long as they stand by the engine it should be ok.

Boo for the cliffhanger though.
