Crooks After Your Catalytic Converter

We just had someone shot and killed in a junkyard yesterday morning here, trying to steal radiators to sell the copper. the prices are real high right now. also, catalytics bring 20-50 apiece, from the platinum in them.

Crack head will steal any thing. Hell a guy local here was caught trying to steal the copper wire from a LIVE electrical station. The ones with 80,000 volts. Just getting to close will send out a bolt to get you. I guess its better they do that than steal from some store.

Ya, there was someone around baltimore stealing light poles for scrap metal money. Think of all of the aluminum and copper in them. I just wonder how they kept from being electricuted. they cut them down with a saw.

You'll go out start your car and you will start to drive away and then. Bang the engine locks up. You think to yourself I just changed yesterday my oil what could have happend. You open the hood check the Dipstick. NO OIL. You start to wonder if you filled your car back up. Then you notice that the trash is still there you look and, Yup, Empty oil bottles. Now your stumped. You hear later that day that theives are casing peoples cars that have recently changed their oil and are stealing it.

HAHA

I had 2 stock cats(the big ones)from my 89 and 90 k5's,and my scrap guy that comes by the shop gave me $75 each for them.I think the recycler was giving him $110 each!Thats alot of money to a tweaker:mad:

Epidemic here!..

The crackheads here have stolen over 40 catalytic converters from BRAND NEW Toyotas and Hondas and other brands at the 13 new car dealerships right near my house! (and no,it wasn't ME! )..they also hit the Wal-Mart parking lot not far away too, several people shopping for christmas gifts came out and found the had stolen the cats right off their car in broad daylight!..

Even the scrapyards buying them have been robbed!..one had a large 10 wheel dump truck filled to overflowing with converters, they steal about 20 or 30 of them, and sell them BACK to the scrapyards!..

Everything made of metal here should be chained down if you want to keep it!..they have gutted new homes and old abandoned buildings of copper tubing, heavy equipment has had the radiator cores sawed out,and thousands of feet of aluminum irrigation pipe has dissapeared at local cranberry bogs too!..copper wire, aluminum gaurd rails and light poles, even snow plows!--you name it,its been stolen here lately..even a church was robbed of all its brass candle holders and many other things including cash--right before Christmas!:doah:

One guy stole over a dozen VEHICLES and junked them last month--finally got caught when he took a local cop's son's van,and they located it at a scrapyard crushed one town away!...not many people question a ramp truck picking up a "junk" unregistered vehicle,or even one registered--they just assume its being towed in for repairs..

Converters here are bringing anywhere from 20-200 dollars as cores!..Subaru ones are the most costly ones, followed by many other forigen makes..the large GM converters from the 70's are bringing about 80 bucks--I foolishly scrapped one off my 79 C10 last year for 15 bucks!:doah: --junked a lot of mag wheels too,for 6-10 bucks each--same rims now bring 30 bucks each!..:(

I have a lot of "light iron" in my yard to scrap, but its not worth 110 bucks a ton like cars or trucks are..not really worth bringing it,and I hate being interrogated at the scrap yards--now they want your phone and licence numbers, they take pictures of you and your truck now on the scales--not that I am a criminal,I just dont like being treated like I am one!..

It has never been this bad around here before--now crack, heroin, and oxycontin have created a bunch of theiving addicts, who'll steal anything they can,and dont care if they have to kill you in the process of robbing you!..I wish they would all OD!..there has been a lot of overdoses lately here--maybe the drug dealers are tired of deadbeat addicts??--and give them a deadly dose??..at any rate,I wont miss them if they all kick off..

:haha: :haha: :haha: *goes and checks his oil!

Not converter related but a couple of months ago some guys broke into a Mississippi Power garage where the trucks are kept and stole every piece of wire off the spools on the trucks. Copper is the new gold apparently...

I heard a rumor there was a company looking at the prospects of re-opening a Copper mine in Michigan's Upper Pennisula. The Keweenaw area there was the only source of copper for 100years before they discovered it out west in open areas more easily mined than in the Keweenaw's rock 200' below the surface.
