My work truck is a 3/4 ton long bed with 6" and 35s. Is got the stock steering with a raised steering arm. I have desent bump steer (more when i pull my trailer) and panic stops can be of the neer lane changing variaty if I'm not paying attention. Plus it just wonders in general. None of which I find abmormal for a lifted rig, but i'd like it perform a bit better with out (dare I say it) lowering it...

I'm pickin up an XJ shaft, but I've been wondering about going crossover. Is it just more awesome on the trail, or would it help street manners too? I have actually concidered retuning it to closer to stock, but really like how it looks now.

Reducing bump steer with crossover will help you everywhere, including the street.

:usaflag:

The only thing crossover will hurt is your pocket book and that doesn't hurt very much either as the parts aren't very expensive. You will gain turning radius and eliminate bump steer. Keep in mind though that if you run a front sway bar you'll have to ditch it as you can't run one with crossover steering (I didn't even notice a difference when I removed mine).

Jason, just do it. Works wonders. I ran crossover on my old burb and it was my daily driver.

Run it on my Burb and It works fine no issues or problems with it in the street or the trail. Its been driven down to Moab 3 hours at 70+ with out any issues

I'm running 39.5 Iroks, Dana 60 front with ORD Xover arms ,rockstomper high steer tierod ,no sway bar & have put a ton of street & highway miles on my 85 Jimmy .
Just did a 300 + mile trip , runs down the road 75 mph with no wandering ,no bump steer, no death wobble !!!!!
One of the best mods you can do !!!!!!!!!!!

37" Krawlers, 6 inch lift, crossover and high steer works great. I don't have a tow rig or trailer so it gets driven everywhere, sometimes 300 mile trips on the road and off. No complaints.

Crossover steering gets rid of the steering input caused by body roll (that you have with the push-pull steering), so even though you lose the sway bar it will still steer straight when the rig leans through corners. If you have stiff lift springs it won't lean much anyway, but if you are flexy it will be a noticeable change.

thats not really true. my k5 has plenty of roll steer.

but with that said, he wont notice it with the heavy 3/4 ton springs in the rear. thats why mine does it so bad, it has super soft rear springs.

i say do it X9

i contemplated back and forth on it.. other than the pricey pricetag.... i did it..and if had to start over with a new truck...my first list of mods are xover, 1tons, detroits in that order.. so that shows i like them!!!!!!

my truck was horrible with the steering when i lifted it... at least i never drove it on the road.. only back yard.... but xover i now have alot sharper steering!!!!!!!! :thumb:

i did it to my dually and did the xj shaft at the same time, and there was nothing wrong with my 4x4 system. drove great.
i did crossover and now it steers damn good. it returns to center like crazy now, i have no slop in the wheel, and overall its nice.
i just really dont like it as much as i did push pull steering. my old steering was soft, confortable, smooth, and predictable.
seems i can feel every bump in the road with crossover and its like white knuckles driving with the truck.

i did it on my blazer and did the crossover, xj shaft, and hydro assist, 60f and 40 inch boggers all at one time. that truck is a dream to drive.

anyways, ive only put on 50 miles or so in the dually with it, still on the fence.
