Cross over steering

I have a 71 with a Dana60 up front.

Thinking of going to cross over steering... Should I? What issues have you had? Does it work as well as I hear?

Works much better especially if you wheel it.

Depending on the setup you may notice a bit more bump steer in the steering wheel, but its really not that big deal.


It allows max travel without maxing out all of your steering joints all the time. And better angles etc.

You lose the sway bar but for most, you don't notice a difference.

I used WFO springless arms and draglink. My tierod is the HD ORD

Yes. Mine is all ord. All went together perfect and everything works great.

Losing the swaybar didnt bother me one bit.

Just to chime in, I've got crossover/highsteer on mine and it's great! Much more responsive steering on road and off. Plus while wheeling it goes where you tell it to

Did first gens even come with a sway bar? I don't think I've ever seen one. Maybe they've all just been removed?

I still run stock. Seems fine, truck goes where I point it. Maybe it's because I still run 1/2 ton axles and 33"tires

Your truck seems to do a lot of drooping and stuffing, but normally not both at the same time

No.

I added one from an early K5 (~73-74) to mine for a brief period of time with a set of ORD discos. With my super soft front springs it helped with the body roll.

When I went to high steer/crossover I had to ditch it.

Correction, you added one from an 89 blazer, remember that's how we met many years ago when I sold you my sway bar.
