Crossmember I.D.

I have this disease that makes me modify or clean up dirty parts. So here are the Crossmembers i am going to use after they had a bath and have been painted. I think they came out real nice.:D

The plus side to using those specific members shown in this pic is that there are extra holes on the opposite side of the member to allow for a double skidplate.

Thats why i asked the question originally which crossmemeber to use because the 78 i bought for parts only came with 1 crossmember and the 75 came with 2. I believe the flatter member is only used to hold the skid plate thats probably why they get tossed.

Heres what i found after running outside right now and matching the trans to trans case adapter up to the crossmembers. The 1st member in this pic is from a 78. It looks like someone took a carbide tool to the member to make the hole bigger to fit the adapter thats why the mounting hole is oval and not round. If you look at the bottom 2 members the mounting holes are off from each other. My adapter holes match the 3rd members holes and are off when matched up to the 2nd members holes. So if you have the second member holding up your transfer case adapter. Check the mounting holes. If one is oval its possible thats not the O.E. crossmember.

Oval shaped holes are factory, not cut with carbide bits. Just not sure what year exactly all the members had the ovals.

I looked at it and the hole is not perfectly round, and why would the factory make an oval hole on one side and not the other? Heres a pic. Although you may be right on later models.

Some adaptors have different spaces between the bolts, hence the oval shaped holes.

On this first pic, what is the middle member out of? Does it have all 8 holes for the skidplate? Is the flat part truly flat and not bent? I'd be interested in buying it as I'm looking for one for my '74 chassis.

It does have all 8 holes and is truly flat, but i will be using that member for my 75.
"Oh, I see" said the blind man. :doah: :D

I have never seen that cross-member before but was told it's to make the cross-member interchangeable between the NP203 and the NP205. The NP203 has a wider foot that the NP205.
I also never seen the bottom cross member on the before on a 4x4 and I had parted out three 1973 pickups/Blazers. I also have 1974 blazer now. I think the different cross members may be unique between years and manufacture plants.

Thanks for the pics. Yea i do think the model year makes a difference. I looked at the frame on the 75 and saw where the last member mounts. The bolt holes match up from the last member to the frame.

If anyone has a pic of a 75 member loose or installed of course that would be great. Anyway i am putting the 75 together and will keep everyone interested posted. Thanks All :waytogo:
