on 82 pickup,

the crossmember right after the rear cab mounts crossmembr on the 82 k10 is rusted through all the way on driver side end of it next to frame rail, it is riveted in place with alot of rivets,

its the crossmember that the second set of bed mounting bolts pass down through and round tube bolt spacer sits inside ends of this member,

we have an 86 shortbed 2wd out back with a cleaner chassis than this, a frame rail is cracked all the way through in the front so its an unusable chassis, should we grind off rivets and take the crossmember from the 86 chassis, or grind and cut and weld repair the rusted 82 one ? we are restoring this 82 with all new body, so.,.

thanks

use the newer unrusted one... air chisel works great for rivet removal... uses 7/16 bolt IIRC for the reinstall...
that crossmember is the same for the 2x and 4 by
this is done all the time when i modify frames
